Browns NFL Draft Recap 2024

Last Updated: Mar 20, 2024

It’s been a busy offseason for the Cleveland Browns. When lacking in draft picks, the team has been forced to wheel and deal in free agency.

On one hand, the resurgence of Joe Flacco secured the Browns the fifth seed in the AFC playoffs. On the other hand, where does that leave the team with Deshaun Watson?

Watson wasn’t bad; however, he only played in six games. The Browns made a mistake letting Flacco walk and bringing in Jameis Winston. I guess there’s no quarterback controversy at least.

Oh, right, and there’s the entire rest of the team to worry about. Cleveland tends to be sneaky good because they don’t have many weak links. But scheme fits don’t win championships.

Browns Draft Team Needs 2024

Note: The following information was written prior to the 2024 NFL Draft.

1. Defensive Tackle

The Browns led the league in rushing plays of 20+ yards allowed (18). While a lot of that is on poor linebacker play, it all starts at the point of attack.

Dalvin Tomlinson is one of the best to ever do it, but he is about two years past his prime. Shelby Harris had a solid 2023 season, but he’ll be 33 soon.

2. Running Back

Nick Chubb is in the final year of his deal and he’ll be 29 next year. I’m sure Cleveland would love to lock him up with a contract extension, but they’re cap-tight.

3. Wide Receiver

Adding Jerry Jeudy likely had to be done because Amari Cooper is in the final year of his deal. I expect the Browns to find a flier FA and a Day 3 prospect to round out the position.

More Position Needs: Interior offensive line, Safety, Running back
