DraftKings Sportsbook Hands-on Review

The DraftKings brand began as a daily fantasy sports platform based out of Boston, MA in 2012 by Jason Robins, Matt Kalish, and Paul Liberman. It wasn’t long, around two years, before DraftKings was one of the DFS providers on the market.

Following years of success in DFS, DraftKings ventured into the online sports betting and casino realm back in August of 2018, opening in New Jersey. Now, the DraftKings Sportsbook is legal in 11 states that include Colorado, Illinois, New Jersey, Indiana, Iowa, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Tennessee, Michigan, Wyoming, and Virginia.

As if the Draftkings brand wasn’t already uber-recognizable, they became a publicly traded company in April of 2020 while partnering with Michael Jordan, who not only took an equity stake in the company, but he also became a special advisor as well. Currently, Draftkings is partnered with the NFL, the Dish Network, ESPN, and more notable brands around the United States.

Although the DraftKings website can be cluttered and overwhelming to a newbie, its features are second to none. And while their odds and promotions could be more aggressive, there is something for everyone at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Some of these features include Live Betting, Parlay Insurance, Risk-Free Bet Promotions, Daily Odds Boosts, Rewards, and more.

Is DraftKings Sportsbook Legit?

Yes, DraftKings Sportsbook is fully legitimate. It is fully regulated and licensed by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement while sharing its license with the Resorts Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ.

The DraftKings brand is also one of the most recognizable labels not only in the gaming industry, but in the United States overall. Outside of New Jersey, DraftKings Sportsbook is licensed and regulated in the states they currently live in.

Can You Win Real Money Playing at DraftKings Sportsbook?

Yes, you can win real money at the DraftKings Sportsbook. However, you must be over 21 and be playing within the lines and limits of the states that the sportsbook is legal in.

DraftKings Sportsbook No-Deposit Bonus

Risk-Free Bet

DraftKings Promotions

The DraftKings Sportsbook brings ample promotions, but you must check on them daily as they have fast turnarounds and expiration dates.

For example, there could be one that lasts only 24 hours because it is for a game or an event taking place the next night.

  • Longshot Parlay Jackpot
    • Hit on the longest-odds parlay and win a $50k bonus in DK Dollars.
    • This is an event that expires on 6/14/21.

How To Join DraftKings Sportsbook

Joining the DraftKings Sportsbook is easy here at thegameday.com. Here are the steps:

  • First, click the “Claim Now” or “Get Bonus” button to be redirected to the DK site to sign up. This will also let you take advantage of their new-user bonus which I explained earlier in this review (Deposit Bonus up to $1000 for new users, but terms and conditions apply).
  • Then, you will be asked to fill out a form with the usual information (Email, username, password).
  • Next, you will fill out more information (name, address, phone number, last four digits of SSN, etc).
  • On the final pages, DraftKings will attempt to secure and verify your account while using the geolocation feature to make sure you are playing within legal state limits.
  • If they can not verify your information, you will be asked to upload documents.

My DraftKings App Experience

Contrary to most of the Draftkings Sportsbook competitors, you can find the mobile app on both the Android and iOS app stores. And similar to the website, the DraftKings Sportsbook app will appear busy to first-timers.

When you initially download and install the app — I used the iOS version — you will be asked to verify your location upon signing in. This is normal as DraftKings wants to protect themselves by making sure you are playing within the limits of a legal state.

If you’ve already been playing with the Draftkings DFS app, you will find your account balance at the top right. You may even already have funds to use. However, if you don’t, make sure you take advantage of the terrific new-user bonus they are offering that I explained earlier in this review.

On the left side, you will find your account profile as well as your notification tabs. Be sure to check your notifications as you may have rewards, promotions, or free bets waiting for you. The next line down you can scroll through are Draftkings’ active promotions. You must opt-in to most of them to take advantage of the offers.

In the mid-section of the app, you will find quick links to active markets as well as the day’s top action. Here, you can easily toggle through other sports as well.

At the bottom menu bar, you will find your home button on the left. This is self-explanatory. Next to the right, you will find your live betting button. Here, you will find active in-game betting options you can place wagers on.

In the idle of the menu, you will find one of the most user-friendly bet-slips on the market to keep track of your active bets. Next to that, you will find your search button where you can literally find any active bet for any active market in one place.

Finally, on the bottom right, you will find your promo button. Hit that and find out all of the other promotions that you may qualify for as DraftKings cant fit them all on the top of your home screen.

Despite the overall popularity of the Draftkings Sportsbook platform and how busy it can be at times, I have never experienced any lag with the app. I can’t say the same about their smaller competitors. While I do prefer the website to the app, they both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Should You Bet at DraftKings Sportsbook?

If you’ve read my reviews in the past, you’ve heard me say this before. To get the best odds, you must have multiple sportsbook accounts. Sure, it’s more work and time to shop the lines, but in the long run, it is worth it.

If DraftKings Sportsbook is not part of your everyday arsenal, then you are missing out. Sure, their lines aren’t as favorable at times, however, they offer more betting options than most, which means you will likely find it at DraftKings if you can not find it anywhere else. If they don’t have it, there is a good chance no one else will either.

I am not a fan of the popups, advertisements, or clutter on the website, but that is something you will get used to. In fact, most of Draftkings’ competitors have similar issues, only their sites are slower and not as aesthetically pleasing. So, you have to take the good with the bad.

And despite the popups, they are usually for free bets and promotions, which is in the user’s favor. While you need different apps to navigate through the DraftKings Sportsbook/Online Casino (both in one app) and DFS (separate app), you can use your account balances to play at any of them.

Overall, DraftKings Sportsbook is an excellent platform, but as I said, you must take the good with the bad. This is a terrific platform for the beginner, intermediate, and expert. There are also in-depth courses for beginner users to acclimate and educate them on the sports betting process. They also have a cashout option, a feature that some, not all, sportsbooks bring to the table.

DraftKings Sportsbook is operational in 11 states, more than anyone else I have seen on the market. Once you are used to navigating the platform and place a few wagers, you will see why DraftKings is one of the best all-around sportsbooks around.

Customer Service

DraftKings Sportsbook is one of the most recognizable brands in the gaming industry, but their customer support could be improved.

Currently, the only way to reach them by phone is by filling out a form and receiving a callback. Not every sportsbook has a phone number to reach, but this would be my preference. There is also no live chat, unfortunately.
