World Cup Group G Odds & Predictions

Last Updated: Nov 27, 2022

Group G features the overall favorite to win the 2022 World Cup in Brazil. However, the real excitement surrounding this quartet of teams will be the battle for second place between Switzerland, Serbia, and Cameroon.

Serbia and Switzerland impressed during World Cup qualifying, while Cameroon is one of the true live underdogs in the tournament.

So, who will qualify out of Group G and join the Round of 16? Let’s look at current betting odds to determine the best bets and make a group prediction.

World Cup Group G Winner Odds

  • Brazil (-350)
  • Switzerland (+600)
  • Serbia (+650)
  • Cameroon (+1200)

World Cup Group G odds are current as of Oct. 11 ET on BetMGM Sportsbook.

It should come as no surprise that Brazil is a massive favorite to win Group G, considering their deep and talented roster. However, there is little to no value in betting the Seleção to win at -350. (They’re one of the favorites among World Cup winner odds, for one.)

The more exciting battle comes between Switzerland and Serbia, who are listed at a near deadlock to finish in second place.

World Cup Group G Preview

Brazil (-350)

The five-time World Cup champions enter the tournament as the overall favorite, led by a juggernaut of talent that includes Neymar, Bruno Guimarães, Fabinho, Casemiro, Thiago Silva, Alisson, Vinícius Júnior, Antony, Gabriel Jesus, Richarlison, and Raphinha.

Choosing a starting XI will be more complicated than qualifying out of Group G for the Seleção, who placed first in CONMEBOL qualifying without a loss in 17 matches.

Switzerland (+600)

Switzerland defeated Bulgaria 4-0 last November to earn their place in Qatar, going unbeaten during qualifying while conceding only two goals.

Murat Yakin‘s roster is built strongly from the back, and they will attempt to reach the Round of 16 for the fourth time in their last five World Cups. Look out for Xherdan Shaqiri (Chicago Fire) to provide a spark on offense, while Manuel Akanji (Manchester City) and Fabian Schär (Newcastle) anchor the defense.

Serbia (+650)

Serbia secured their spot at the World Cup by finishing unbeaten in a challenging qualifying group that included a tough Portugal side.

Captain Dušan Tadić will set the tone for the Eagles. Still, their dreams of qualifying will likely come down to striker Aleksandar Mitrović, who has demonstrated great form in the Premier League this season for Fulham, and Luka Jović of Real Madrid.

Serbia has a diverse and potent attack, which is necessary for any team looking to upset the Brazilians.

Cameroon (+1200)

The Indomitable Lions will be making their eighth appearance at the World Cup, led by captain Vincent Aboubakar (Al-Nassr) and Karl Toko Ekambi (Lyon).

Cameroon barely survived qualifying by defeating Ivory Coast 1-0 and needed an away goals rule to advance past Algeria. After failing to reach the World Cup in Russia, the Lions hope to surprise this year. But, unfortunately, Cameroon will have to do it without one of their best players in Joël Matip (Liverpool), after the center back had a falling out with the team.

World Cup Group G Winner Best Bet

Brazil (-350)

WAGER: 3 Units

There is no decision to be made here. Brazil is far and away the best team in the group, with everyone else competing for second place.

Serbia may seem like a value at +650, but I think that would simply be wasting money.

World Cup Group G Props

Switzerland Qualifies (+115) at BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

While Serbia poses a legitimate threat due to their firepower, I’m backing Switzerland during World Cup betting as the second qualifying team out of Group G due to their stellar defense.

Akanji and Schär should give Serbia and Cameroon all they handle and help command the pace of the game.
