What Is the Minimum Deposit for Polymarket?
Polymarket’s minimum deposit amount is $2, $7, or $9. The exact figure is based on your cryptocurrency blockchain, and here’s how:
| Chain | Minimum deposit |
|---|---|
| Polygon, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, BNB Smart Chain, Solana, and most others | $2 |
| Ethereum | $7 |
| Bitcoin | $9 |
| Tron | $9 |
So, Polymarket Bitcoin and Tron deposits have the highest minimum limit at $9. Meanwhile, if you use the Polygon or Solana network, you can fund your account with just $2. I wasn’t surprised to see the low threshold for Polygon since Polymarket itself is built on the blockchain.
Keep in mind that Polymarket’s minimum deposits are strict. If you send any amount lower than the limit, it won’t be credited to your prediction market account. Instead, it’ll be held and released whenever cumulative deposits to the same address and blockchain reach the threshold.
Clarifying Cryptocurrency vs Chain
When funding your Polymarket account, you have to choose both cryptocurrency and blockchain. The latter determines the minimum deposit, but the former also matters. That’s because some coins and tokens are multi-chain, while others are single-chain.
For instance, I selected ETH during my Polymarket crypto tests, and it supported the native Ethereum chain, as well as Base and Polygon. To deposit ETH on the Ethereum chain, the minimum is $7. Meanwhile, if you select Base, you can fund your account with $2 worth of ETH.
In my experience, the best method for depositing on Polymarket in the US is USDC on Polygon. That’s because you can only trade in the app’s prediction markets using USDC. If you deposit with a coin like BTC, it’ll be automatically converted into pUSD (a bridged USDC token) for trading.
What Is the Polymarket Fiat Minimum Deposit?
On the Polymarket US app, I didn’t see fiat payment methods like debit cards, Apple Pay, or PayPal. As such, there’s no minimum deposit limit for them. The prediction market app supports just cryptocurrencies for payments due to CFTC regulations.
How to Fund Your Account With the Polymarket Minimum Deposit
Now that you know the Polymarket minimum deposit amounts, I’ll show you how to make the payment. For starters, you can’t use the Polymarket website. The prediction market platform is only available on mobile via the iOS app in the Apple App Store. If you have an eligible device, here’s how to carry out a deposit:
- Tap the banners on this page to download the Polymarket US app
- Register and verify your account following the instructions
- Log in and tap ‘Deposit’ on your account dashboard
- Choose ‘Transfer Crypto’ and pick a coin/token and network
- Copy the generated wallet address or scan the QR code if you’re paying with a different smartphone
- Transfer the displayed minimum deposit amount or higher to the address
If the transaction is successful, check your Polymarket balance to confirm the deposit.
Polymarket Deposit Processing Time
At Polymarket, the deposit processing time depends entirely on blockchain confirmation times and network congestion. This applies whether you fund your account with the minimum amount or higher.
More often than not, I receive the deposited money in my account within 2 to 10 minutes. Sometimes, however, it’s much faster and almost instant. The situation is similar to when I submit Polymarket payout requests using crypto.
Polymarket Minimum Deposit Fees
Polymarket doesn’t charge any fees when funding your account. I’ve transferred the exact minimum deposit for Polymarket for selected chains and higher figures, and each time, I paid $0 to the platform. That said, the blockchain network and gas fees apply.
Insights Into the Polymarket Maximum Deposit
I can’t discuss the minimum deposit without mentioning the maximum limit on Polymarket. Actually, there’s no maximum deposit cap on the app. Polymarket doesn’t set an upper threshold when adding money to your account, but the platform advises using the Polygon chain for amounts of $50,000+.
Trading Event Contracts With Your Polymarket Deposit
Once your Polymarket deposit reflects, you can begin trading in the app’s prediction markets. If you’re new to how they work, it’s pretty simple.
The markets list Yes-or-No contracts based on real-world events. If you buy Yes, it means you believe the outcome will be true. On the other hand, you buy No if you think the event won’t happen.
From my trades, the event contract price ranges from $0.01 to $0.99. Therefore, with the $2 to $9 minimum deposit on Polymarket, you can place orders. Each contract will pay you $1 if your prediction is correct after settlement. You can decide to sell early if you want.
I counted more than 10 prediction market categories on the Polymarket app, but these are the trending six:
| Prediction market category | Events |
|---|---|
| Sports | Football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, cricket, and 10+ others |
| Crypto | BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, BNB |
| Politics | Elections, Congress decisions, international relations, government actions, and more |
| Culture | Movies, music, TV shows, awards, celebrities, video games, and more |
| Economics | Fed rates, company performance, jobs, inflation, GDP, interest rates, and others |
| Climate | Weather, temperature, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, pandemics, and volcanoes |
I mostly trade in sports and politics prediction markets on the Polymarket app. However, my last orders before making this guide were on Polymarket airdrop event contracts in the crypto category.
Resolving Potential Polymarket Deposit Issues
Depositing the minimum deposit isn’t difficult, but I’ve seen some traders facing a few common issues. These include:
- Transferring below the minimum: The deposit won’t be credited until the total sent to that same deposit address, token, and chain reaches the minimum.
- Sending to the wrong network or token: In this case, the funds will be stuck at the wrong blockchain location and may be lost forever.
- Entering an incorrect deposit address: If you don’t deposit into the exact wallet address generated by Polymarket, the deposit won’t be accepted.
- Delayed transaction: Deposits can take time due to network congestion and blockchain confirmations. You just have to wait for a few more minutes.
- Compliance hold: Polymarket may place a hold on your deposit for a compliance review if your account is flagged for suspicious activity. This will be resolved if you provide proof as requested.
For 2, Polymarket offers a recovery tool you can use to try to get back the funds. However, the tool isn’t a guarantee, and unsupported tokens can’t be recovered. For more technical issues with Polymarket deposits, I suggest contacting the customer service team via live chat or email.
Pros and Cons of the Polymarket Minimum Deposit
Drawing from my findings, below are the good and not-so-good aspects of Polymarket’s minimum deposit thresholds:
Pros
- Multiple blockchain support
- Low $2 minimum deposit for Polygon and Solana
- No native transaction fees
Cons
- High $9 minimum for Bitcoin and Tron
Conclusion – Polymarket Accepts a Low $2 Minimum Deposit
The lowest amount you can deposit on Polymarket is $2, and it’s supported on affordable chains like Polygon and Solana. You trade in the prediction markets using USD Coin only, so you can simply transfer $2+ using USDC on Polygon.
Other chains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tron, have higher minimum deposit limits of $7 to $9. Still, I consider the amounts accommodating since they’re below $10. You can still deposit using the mentioned blockchains, convert them to USDC, and trade.
As you fund your Polymarket account, you don’t have to worry about transaction fees from the platform. Contract prices are between $0.01 and $0.99, meaning you can trade with relatively small amounts. To begin, tap the banners on this page to install the Polymarket app and register today.
