How Do Kalshi sports Predictions Work?
First, you need to understand how sports predictions work and what you can actually do with them at Kalshi.
You Buy, Sell, and Settle Trade Contracts for Sports Predictions
At Kalshi, you have the option of buying, selling, and potentially settling trade contracts based on different sporting predictions. For example, a live prediction available right now while I’m writing this guide is, “Who will be the NBA Western Conference Champion?”. For this prediction, you have a range of potential teams such as the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, and Denver Nuggets, each of which have a “yes” and “no” option with a relevant price listed in Cents.
These yes or no options are your available trade contracts that you can buy from other customers via the P2P trading system. For example, the Oklahoma City Thunder yes and no options are priced at 49.0c and 52.0c respectively. This means that if you think OKC will win the Western Conference, you would purchase X amount of Yes trade contracts at 49.0c each minus any fees.
This is the buying part of Kalshi sports predictions. You then have the option of selling those trade contracts. For example, perhaps the season draws on and Oklahoma pulls away from the Spurs in the Western Conference, and the “yes” trade contract price actually increases to 87.0c. You could seize this opportunity to sell your “Yes” contracts at the new price of 87.0c each, which means you would have made a return of 87.0c - 49.0c - fees for each trade contract.
This is the selling part of Kalshi sports predictions.
Lastly, you also simply have the option of holding your trade contracts until the event happens to try and settle them. So, perhaps you are confident that OKC will be crowned the Western Conference Champions and you are happy to wait it out. You do so, and indeed OKC makes it to the NBA Finals. In this scenario, your trade contracts will successfully settle, and you will get a $1 return minus any Kalshi trading fees for each contract you hold.
This is the settling/holding part of Kalshi sports predictions.
Pros and Cons of the Kalshi Sports Predictions
I’m generally a big fan of the sports markets offered here, and overall, with other sections like Kalshi election predictions, I think this trading site does a fantastic job of covering all the popular options and sports that US customers will want to trade. I like that they go beyond the basic outright winner predictions, but also give you some proposition predictions, plus futures trading like end of season awards. There are some potential drawbacks though, such as the trading fees which can ultimately impact your overall returns.

The Types of Sports Predictions I Found at Kalshi
You should now have an understanding of how the Kalshi sports predictions work, so I want to spend a little time looking at some live examples, and discussing the different sports you can trade predictions for.
Available Kalshi Sports Markets
In terms of overall choice, you have to realize that Kalshi uses a rolling system where I think that it only shows relevant sports at any given time that it has available predictions for. So, at the time I wrote this Kalshi sports predictions article, I saw the following main sports categories:

As a major NBA fan, I spent most of my time checking out the prediction markets for this league and I was happy to see some varied options. The main type of predictions are the outright winners, but you also have plenty of end of season awards, futures predictions for things like champions, plus there are some proposition predictions for individual team and player stats for most of the sports.
My Thoughts on the Coverage and Volume of Predictions at Kalshi
For me, Kalshi has some of the best sports coverage you can currently find at prediction trading sites. It does a fantastic job of giving you a diverse selection of predictions for popular sports. I always found something that I wanted to trade, and from my experience, there is plenty of trade volume and activity too, to keep the trade contract prices interesting.

To look at the available Kalshi event contracts related to sports and get in on the trading action you must register an account and this can be done by following the below steps:
