Napoli thoroughly dominated Serie A in the 2022-23 season and wrapped up a historic and well-deserved league title, but nobody has successfully defended the Scudetto since Juventus’ razor-thin title win in 2020.

American soccer fans might be keen to pay a bit more attention to the Italian league with the arrival of “Captain America" Christian Pulisic at AC Milan, following his transfer from Premier League’s Chelsea.

It’s not too early to think about who’s going to be the next champion in Italy, so let’s get into the early Serie A odds.

Despite winning the title a year ago, Napoli are not viewed as favorites coming into the 2023-24 season, with Inter edging them out for the top spot.

This isn’t an enormous shock; Napoli potentially overperformed last year after a period of mediocrity, and are in a financial position to potentially sell key stars like Victor Osimhen. Internazionale, the Champions League runners-up in May, have been the most consistently strong team in Italy since the 2019-20 season, and should be very talented again this year.

The two biggest clubs in the country, Juventus and AC Milan, are the other two clubs who have won a Scudetto during this four-year period of the title changing hands each season. They’re up next after the two favorites, for good reason.

Both have their issues, but both have a lot of strong players, and put in great performances at times last year. Milan will presumably have superstar goalkeeper Mike Maignan in the net for more of the season than in 22/23, as he has recovered from injury, while Juve will be focusing largely on the league after missing out on UCL and Europa League football due to their points deduction.

Serie A Winner Best Bet

Juventus (+410)

At over +400 odds, Juventus have to be the best value on the board to win Serie A for the 2023/24 season, making them a soccer bet you should run to make. They were near the top of the table last year before their points deduction, and the league will be by far their biggest priority after missing out on the Champions League.

We’ve seen how challenging it is for a team to balance multiple trophy chases in a season, and a club like Juventus having one sole focus makes them very dangerous. They have a great chance to get back to their winning ways in season three of manager Max Allegri’s second tenure with the club.

Serie A Winner Betting Favorites

Inter (+200)

FanDuel Sportsbook • WAGER: 1 Unit

After coming inches away from winning the Champions League last year, the sportsbooks like Inter to win a different trophy this year and get back on top of Serie A. They last won the league in the 2020/21 season, when they ran away from the competition and won the league by 12 points.

That season was sandwiched between extremely close title chases, in which Inter narrowly missed out on titles to Juventus by one point (2020) and bitter rivals AC Milan by two points (2022). They’ve shown a lot of consistency, and if Napoli regress at all, Inter could easily take the crown.

Serie A Winner Sleeper Bets

AS Roma (+1100)

FanDuel Sportsbook • WAGER: .25 Unit

Put simply, money invested in José Mourinho is never bad money.

In 2021-22, the first year of the Special One’s tenure in Rome, the club claimed their first-ever European trophy by winning the inaugural Europa Conference League.

This past season, they came oh-so-close to winning their first Europa League title.

Things just keep getting better this year, and some health from the quietly-incredible Paulo Dybala could be a huge boost for this club. They’re a long shot in some ways, but if enough things go right, this is a club that has the ability to win all of the big games and stay in a title chase right down to the wire.

Lazio (+1400)

FanDuel Sportsbook • WAGER: .25 Unit

For our next underdog, let’s take a look at Lazio, who like Roma, call the Stadio Olimpico home.

It’s easy to forget with all of the hype surrounding Napoli, the dual UCL chase between Inter and Milan, and all of the Juventus drama, but Lazio just finished second in Serie A. It was a distant second, but they still would’ve been there had Juventus not been deducted 10 points, and they deserve credit for a strong season.

They did lose key contributor Sergej Milinković-Savić to the Saudi league, but he netted a decent transfer fee, which I am sure the club will use wisely to bring in reinforcements.
