Lions vs Jets Predictions & Odds

Last Updated: Dec 13, 2022

The Detroit Lions (6-7) make a return to MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Jets (7-6), four weeks removed from a 31-18 victory against the New York Giants in that very same venue.

The Lions enter this game riding high with back-to-back victories and 74 total points over their last two games. Jared Goff and co. will look to build off a big division win over the Minnesota Vikings, 34-23, in their previous contest.

The Jets, on the other hand, enter Sunday’s matchup with consecutive losses. Head coach Robert Saleh’s squad fell to 1-2 since the benching of sophomore quarterback Zach Wilson after a 20-12 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

With both teams hovering around the .500 mark and pushing for a playoff spot, let’s dive into our Detroit vs New York best bets, predictions, and betting tips for Week 15.

Lions vs Jets Odds

As of Tuesday, Dec. 2, Caesars Sportsbook surprisingly has this game as a “pick’em,” or a complete toss-up.

With both squads possessing their fair share of question marks, there is no surprise that oddsmakers have declined to designate a favorite. While the Lions have been playing far better as of late, the Jets have proven their legitimacy with big wins over contending teams.

Lions vs Jets Implied Totals

Lions 22.25, Jets 22.25

Oddsmakers have both squads at the 22.25 mark early this week despite Detroit surpassing this total in 10 of its 13 contests . The relatively low total can be largely correlated to the stellar play of New York’s defense, which has held its opponents under this total in nine of its 13 games this season.

Lions vs Jets Prediction

Jets 21, Lions 18

The Jets should find a way to avoid a three-game losing streak when they host the Lions this Sunday.

New York appeared to have turned a new leaf after making Mike White the starter following a dismal, three-point performance against the Patriots in late November. They went on to blow out the Chicago Bears, but then suffered two consecutive heartbreaking defeats.

In last weekend’s loss to the Bills, the former Western Kentucky star was hospitalized for precautionary reasons due to a ribs issue. White is listed as day-to-day, but Saleh stated the Jets are “preparing for him to play” come Sunday.

White’s chemistry with wide receivers Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore has continued to grow and would be vital against a susceptible Lions’ defense that’s surrendered 267.3 passing yards per game over the last three contests.

Over the past few weeks, Goff has reminded the league why he was selected first overall in the 2016 draft. The two-time Pro Bowler has put up an astounding 1,311 yards and eight touchdowns with zero interceptions over his last six games.

Detroit’s balanced attack in the Week 14 win over the Vikings saw nine different receivers record a catch, including this year’s first-round pick, Jameson Williams, who managed to haul in a 41-yard touchdown on his first and only reception of his career.

If there is one defensive unit that could slow down Goff and the Lions’ offense, it is that of the Jets, which have allowed the fifth-lowest completion percentage (59.3) of any team on its home field. Additionally, Saleh’s squad ranks third in yards per attempt (5.8) and fourth in passing yards per game allowed (189.4).

Breakout rookie AhmadSauce” Gardner has already proven to be one of the top cornerbacks in the league and will help contain Amon-Ra St. Brown and any other receiver he lines up in front of.

New York’s defense should provide the slight edge in this matchup, allowing White and the offense to squeeze by in the thinnest of margins.

Lions vs Jets Best Bets

Under 45.5 Points (-125) at Caesars Sportsbook

WAGER: 2 Units

While the Lions’ offense comes into this game blazing hot, the ability of the Jets’ defense to neutralize its opponents will come to fruition once again in this contest.

Additionally, while Detroit has been better on the road in recent weeks, Dan Campbell’s squad has had its fair share of struggles when traveling this season.

While the teams may finish close to the total, neither offense should excel enough to pass it.

While I am choosing the Jets to pull through in this one, there is no denying that the Lions have been one of the best second-half offenses in recent weeks.

The Lions are averaging 16 second-half points over the last three games, good for third highest in the league.

The Jets should withstand a late comeback attempt by Detroit but will lose the second half nevertheless.
