The Houston Texans will look to turn it around against the NFC East when they host the streaking Washington Commanders at NRG Stadium.

The Texans have lost back-to-back games to NFC East foes, most recently falling 24-16 to the Giants. That was their fourth straight loss, dropping them to 1-7-1 on the year.

Washington pulled off the surprise upset of the formerly-undefeated Eagles on Monday Night Football, improving to 4-1 in their last five games and 5-5 on the season.

Commanders vs Texans Prediction

Commanders 21, Texans 17

Taylor Heinicke isn’t the most athletic quarterback in the NFL and he doesn’t have the biggest arm or the best footwork. There is just an aura around the 29-year-old journeyman out of Old Dominion, and the Commanders have rallied around him.

Washington is 3-1 with Heinicke as the starter after ending the Eagles undefeated season, and the only loss came at the hands of the 8-1 Minnesota Vikings.

The defense has played better in recent weeks. They held the Eagles to a season-low 264 yards and the Vikings in check the week before. They have played complementary football to a T across their four-game win streak.

Houston, on the other hand, has shown little signs of life across the last four weeks. Houston is bottom five in the NFL in total offense and scoring offense, and they’ve converted just 44% of red-zone trips into touchdowns, which is 31st in the NFL.

Rookie running back Dameon Pierce has been arguably the only bright spot. He’s fifth in the NFL in rushing with 772 yards and has as bright a future as anyone in the NFL at the position.

Houston’s defense has been unable to stop the run and is giving up a league-worst 181.8 yards per game on the ground.

Look for the Commanders to recreate a similar game plan from Monday Night’s win, where they ran the ball nearly 50 times and racked up 152 yards on the ground against a stronger front seven.

Commanders vs Texans Bet Tips

Here are a few Commanders vs Texans betting trends to consider before making your bets:

  • The Texans are 1-3 against the spread in their last four games, but have covered in four of their last six games at home.
  • Houston is 1-9-1 straight up in its last 11 games, and 0-4-1 SU its last five home games.
  • Washington is 4-0-1 in their last five games.
  • The total has gone Under in six of Washington’s last eight games.

Commanders vs Texans Best Bets

Commanders -3 (-110) at FanDuel Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

Washington is playing well on both sides of the ball, and assuming they stick with Heinicke, they’ll continue to rally around him.

Washington is also able to run the ball effectively with Antonio Gibson giving a change of pace to rookie Brian Robinson Jr. The Commanders’ defense should continue to play well against the one-dimensional, run-heavy Texans offense.

Under 40.5 Total Points (-110) at BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

The Commanders’ offense is playing better, but they’ve relied heavily on playing keep away and dominating the time of possession to do so. In a short week, they’ll lean on the run even more against one of the worst run defenses in football.

Houston has struggled to score even against below-average defenses, and with the Commanders keyed in on Pierce and the run game, it’s going to be a struggle for them to move the ball.
