Bengals vs Jets Predictions

Last Updated: Sep 21, 2022

The defending AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) will look to get back on the right track when they visit MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Jets (1-1) in Week 3.

The Jets are coming off a miraculous 31-30 win over the Cleveland Browns after trailing by 13 points with less than two minutes remaining. Joe Flacco threw a pair of touchdowns that bookended a successful onside kick to lead the comeback, which stunned New York and Cleveland fans alike.

The Bengals were on the opposite end of a shocking scoreline in Week 2, falling 20-17 to Cooper Rush and the Cowboys in Dallas. Cincinnati’s rebuilt offensive line was its downfall again, allowing six sacks of star quarterback Joe Burrow.

Can Cincinnati sort things out and get in the win column this week? Let’s dig into the odds before we make our Cincinnati vs New York predictions.

Bengals vs Jets Odds

Despite their record, the Bengals are currently 4.5-point road favorites over the Jets at Caesars Sportsbook. The total is currently sitting at 45, which looks to be about the average for this Week 3 slate.

Bengals vs Jets Implied Totals

Bengals 24.75, Jets 20.25

Bookmakers are expecting the Bengals to bounce back and pick up a relatively close win over the Jets.

Cincinnati was a heavy favorite (line closed CIN -11.5) in its most recent visit to MetLife last Halloween, but allowed 405 passing yards to now third-string quarterback Mike White in a 34-31 loss.

Bengals vs Jets Prediction

Bengals 31, Jets 20

This will be an interesting matchup because the Jets have played two of the most rush-heavy offenses in the NFL (the Ravens and Browns) in their first two games. They didn’t fair particularly well against Cleveland, allowing 184 yards on the ground and three rushing touchdowns to Nick Chubb.

Now, they’ll take on a Bengals team that can run with Joe Mixon, but would prefer to air it out with an all-world quarterback in Burrow and an impressive trio of receivers in Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd. That group will pose a big test to rookie corner Sauce Gardner and veteran D.J. Reed, who admittedly have held up pretty well through the first two games.

The key once again will be Cincinnati’s offensive line, which will need to hold up against the Jets’ rotation of pass rushers who have recorded three sacks in the first two games. I’m expecting a better performance from the Bengals here, especially on offense.

Bengals vs Jets Bet Tips

Here are some Bengals vs Jets betting trends to consider before placing your wagers:

  • The Jets were 1-3 (25%) against the spread after their four victories in 2021.
  • The Bengals were 5-2 (71.4%) ATS after a loss in 2021 and were 2-1 as road favorites.
  • The Under is 2-0 in Cincinnati’s contests so far this season, while Jets games have split the Over/Under.

Bengals vs Jets Best Bets

Bengals -4.5 (-110) at Caesars Sportsbook

This is a great spot to buy low on the Bengals and sell high on the Jets. Cincinnati needs a win to save its season from absolute disaster, while New York was extremely lucky to get its first win of the season.

After enduring an embarrassing loss to the Jets last year, Zac Taylor will make sure his team is prepared for the task at hand. Look for Burrow to connect with Chase for at least one deep touchdown over the top, as New York’s safeties seem to be an area of concern.

Over 45 Total Points (-110) at Caesars

These two teams combined for 65 points when they met up last year, and I’m expecting more fireworks on the scoreboard Sunday. The Bengals should get right on offense against a Jets defense that isn’t exactly elite at getting to the quarterback.

Speaking of elite, Flacco showed he still has some gas in the tank by throwing for 307 yards and four scores last week. Rookie wideout Garrett Wilson adds a different dynamic to this New York offense, which should contribute to this total as well.
