The USA will continue its 2026 World Cup campaign on Friday, June 19, when it takes on Australia in Seattle at 3 p.m. ET on FOX.
Both teams won their opening matches in Group D play. The Americans triumphed 4-1 over Paraguay, while the Aussies pulled off a 2-0 upset victory over Turkiye.
Ahead of Friday’s showdown, I’ll dig into the latest match odds and make my USA vs Australia predictions.

USA vs Australia Predictions
Score Prediction: USA 3, Australia 1
The USA was one of the most impressive teams in the opening games of group play, particularly in the first half against Paraguay.
Mauricio Pochettino’s squad jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening 45 minutes, dominating possession (72%) and outshooting Paraguay 7-2. The second half was more evenly contested, especially after the U.S. made substitutions, but the three points were already in the bag.
Australia’s opening victory was more of the smash-and-grab variety. The Socceroos ceded 72% possession and were outshot 30-9, but goalkeeper Patrick Beach (8 saves) helped keep Turkiye at bay.
The Aussies were organized, defended well, and took their chances when they came, with Nestory Irankunda and Connor Metcalfe finding the back of the net on either side of halftime.
Still, Tony Popovic’s side rode its luck, and it’ll have to be better to pull off another upset against the tournament co-hosts.
USA vs Australia Best Bets
USA ML (-165) vs Australia
These two teams have played each other relatively recently, with the U.S. claiming a 2-1 victory in an October 2025 friendly in Colorado.
If the Americans are anywhere near as fluid going forward as they were against Paraguay, I think they could improve on that result Friday.

I was particularly impressed with how many intricate backheels, flicks, and one-touch passes came off for the U.S. attack, which looked particularly dangerous when playing through Christian Pulisic on the left side.
As long as he overcomes his calf injury in time to suit up, I’ll lay the juice with the USMNT as my soccer bet of the day.
USA vs Australia: Over 2.5 Goals (-105)
Seven of the last eight USA matches have featured at least three goals, so I’m backing the over in Friday’s match.
Even if Pulisic doesn’t play, the Americans have plenty of attacking options. Gio Reyna, who scored as a substitute against Paraguay, could get the nod to start on the left wing. The U.S. also has a confident striker in Folarin Balogun, who netted twice in his World Cup debut.

The other thing going for this total is that Pochettino’s squad has some defensive deficiencies. The U.S. hasn’t kept a clean sheet in its last nine matches, last doing so in a 2-0 victory over Japan in September.
While Australia isn’t an attacking powerhouse, it wouldn’t surprise me if they grab a goal at some point, potentially from a set piece.
