PGA Championship Prop Bets | Best 2022 PGA Championship Props, Bets, & Sites

Posted: May 18, 2022Last updated: May 18, 2022

The PGA Championship is one of golf’s four annual majors, and after the PGA Tour moved the event from August to May in 2019, it falls right in the height of prime sports-betting season.

Golf’s second major comes around the same time as the NBA and NHL playoffs, regular-season baseball, as well as enormous events like the Indianapolis 500, horse racing’s Triple Crown, the French Open tennis tournament, and much more.

Still, the PGA is an event in and of itself, as golf has become one of the most popular sports to bet on online. Outright betting — picking a golfer to win an event — is a popular way to get in on the action. Putting a small amount of money on your favorite player to win is a good idea.

However, gambling on the tournament winner is tricky, hence why each golfer gets extremely long pre-tournament odds to win.

Prop betting, a golf bettor’s real fried, is wagering on anything that isn’t the final outcome, and online sportsbooks have developed myriad props for gamblers, especially those who wager on golf.

But how does prop betting work for an event like the PGA Championship? Here’s a guide, with my 2022 PGA Championship props and Pat Pickens’ general golf prop betting strategy.

PGA Championship Props

Top Scot: Robert MacIntyre (-135) at BetMGM

This is essentially a head-to-head matchup between Robert MacIntyre and Russell Knox. While Knox has more major championship experience, it’s hard to deny the talent gap between the two.

MacInyre is a big-hitting lefty who has never missed a cut at a major (8-for-8) and has a strong track record (2 Top-25 finishes) at Augusta National, which is one of the comp courses to Southern Hills.

Knox, who has failed to make the cut at The Masters in his two starts, has contended a few different times this year, but his lack of length is going to be a problem on this 7,556-yard, Par 70 layout.

I think there’s a decent chance we’re cashing this prop by Friday afternoon.

No Hole-in-One (-160) at BetMGM

It’s no fun to root against a hole-in-one, but sometimes you need to be realistic about the circumstances.

The four Par 3’s at Southern Hills measure 226, 220, 173, and 230 yards in length and are all protected by greenside bunkers. None of these holes will be particularly accessible.

While we don’t know what the pin locations will be, we do know that the wind is supposed to ramp up for at least two of the four days. That won’t help matters, either.

American Winner (-120) at BetMGM

The PGA Championship has provided six consecutive American champions, with only Brooks Koepka winning twice during that span.

If you’re not sure on who to take as an outright bet but want something to root for come Sunday afternoon, this could be a worthwhile way to get a piece of the action.

There are plenty of Americans amongst the favorites this year, including Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and 2020 champion Collin Morikawa.

How To Pick the Best PGA Championship Prop Betting Sites

It’s important to think about what makes a good site for The Masters prop betting. Here are a few criteria to consider

  • Odds: The best odds lead to the best payouts. Since betting is all about winning money, the best odds are the most important factor when choosing a prop bet or prop betting site.
  • Markets: Markets, or the bet types, are important because the best bets are the ones we love. So if there’s a PGA-related bet we love, but it’s only available at one online sportsbook, it is essential to have funds in that sportsbook to take advantage of that wager.
  • Boosts: Odds boosts are great because they provide more value for your bet. Since, as stated above, the goal is winning money, getting an odds boost is a great way to add to your playable funds and profit.
  • Welcome Bonus: Every sportsbook has some sort of welcome offer to entice new users, but some are better than others. Choosing a new-user bonus, like a first-deposit match, a bet-and-get or a risk-free bet that reimburses in site credit, can instantly give you more bang for your buck and thus allow you to play longer without constantly depositing more of your hard-earned money.

PGA Championship Prop Betting Promotions

The PGA Championship is one of the most bet-on events in golf, and there will be no shortage of promos to pick from in the coming days. DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM always create boosts for each round of a golf tournament, and Wynn’s bet-and-get will enable gamblers to put the bonus funds toward their favorite PGA Championship bets.

There’s a good chance that more sportsbooks will provide similar offers as we get closer to the tournament. There will definitely be a ton of odds boosts on various props, giving you more value on your wagers.

Be sure to check our Promotions page to stay up to date on any new offers. Capitalizing on these bonuses are a great way to build your bankroll.

Best PGA Championship Prop Bets

My personal favorite golf prop bet is choosing the field to have a hole-in-one because the odds are reasonable and it’s a great thing to celebrate if it happens. However, there needs to be a short par-3 that players can attack, which isn’t a given at every course.

There are other smart prop bets like wagering on a player’s finish by nationality or individual tournament props such as if there will be an albatross or a wire-to-wire winner.

Player props are even better bets though since they enable bettors to cash in when their preferred player performs without having the heartache if he falls short of winning. You can gamble on him to lead the tournament after Round 1 or pick him to finish in the top-5, top-10, top-20 or even just to make the cut.

PGA Championship Prop Betting Strategy

Doing your homework is the best way to win big on most sports, and the PGA Championship is no different. Does Jordan Spieth historically play better at one PGA course over others? Is Patrick Reed’s game tailored to succeed at a specific course that is hosting the PGA?

Obviously digging into the numbers and searching for trends takes time and energy, which not all of us have. If you are among those who are looking for a crash course in PGA prop betting, make sure to read our pre-tournament analysis and use that to determine the wagers that you like best.

Or if you want to bet props that aren’t player-specific then peruse each sportsbook’s PGA Championship prop options and seek out the wagers that look and feel the best.

Benefits of PGA Championship Prop Betting Online

Betting on PGA Championship props online is superior to betting on them in-person for a lot of reasons. For instance, you can shop for the best odds and boosts that can ensure the largest payout. Also you can live-bet, or bet while each round is going, which isn’t an option at brick-and-mortar sportsbooks.

But most importantly betting on the PGA Championship online is super-convenient. You can peruse or place your bets from the couch, bed, from social functions or anywhere if you’re in a state that offers online betting. Your bet can be placed in no time, and then you’re in on the action.

Many states have a dozen or more legal, online sportsbooks, which means there are that many bonuses to take advantage of. Plus, the best way to discover your preferred sportsbook is by playing with all of them and seeing which offers the best experience.
