Robinhood Sports Predictions (What Sports Markets Does Robinhood List?)

Robinhood started out as a financial services company that offers investment opportunities, but I’ve found that it has also launched its prediction markets trading site for US customers, including Robinhood sports predictions. Other markets include tech, culture, and economics.

I’ve spent a lot of time reviewing this specific part of its prediction offering and I have been impressed with the range of sports it supports, and the different types of predictions you can trade in, such as awards, individual games, and league standings. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, read on to learn more.

Similar to what I did when looking at the Robinhood event contracts, for its sports predictions, I took the time to check their legitimacy including regulatory compliance, and how the system works for US traders.

Robinhood Sports Events Contracts Are Regulated by the CFTC

I am 100% confident that this is a legitimate trading and financial investment site. Robinhood is regulated by the CFTC (Commodity Futures Trading Commission), which is a requirement for such sites that want to operate in the US. More specifically, the trade contracts and predictions are provided by Robinhood Derivatives LLC. which is a registered Futures Commission merchant.

In terms of availability, this means that anyone over 18 in the US in legal states can sign up here and trade in Robinhood sports predictions.

You Can Buy, Sell, and Settle Sports Predictions at Robinhood

Now that I’ve covered the legality of this process, I want to explain exactly how the Robinhood sports predictions site works. You are engaging in peer-2-peer trading where you are buying and selling trade contracts based on different sports predictions.

Each sports prediction trade contract at Robinhood has a value between $0.01 and $0.99, and you can do three things with it:

  • Buy: purchase trade contracts from other customers.
  • Sell: sell your bought trade contracts to other customers.
  • Hold: keep your trade contracts until the sports event happens, and hope they settle.

If you hold your trade contracts at Robinhood until the event happens, they have the chance of settling. A contract can settle correctly or incorrectly. If you got the prediction wrong, you get $0 return on your trade contracts. However, if you got it right, you get a $1 return minus any fees for each trade contract.

I think this gives you excellent versatility because you can potentially make a return if you sell your trade contracts at a higher value than you bought them for, or you can simply hold them if you are confident in the prediction outcome you chose.

Pros and Cons of Robinhood Sports Predictions

I’ve spent plenty of time reviewing the Robinhood sports predictions and I am pleased with my findings. There is loads of variety, and I think that no matter what sport you follow, you should be able to find predictions you can trade.

The only downside is that Robinhood sticks to the most popular sports - you won’t find predictions for anything like handball, volleyball, or Futsal, for instance. But, to be fair, out of all the sports prediction sites I’ve tested, none of them really go outside of the major global sports and US pro leagues.

Pros

  • Great support for US pro leagues
  • Good selection of prediction types
  • Decent trade volume
  • Simple display and layout

Cons

  • No coverage outside popular sports

What Sports Markets Does Robinhood List?

It’s also important to note that there are other categories this site supports like Robinhood election predictions, politics, culture, and economics, but I’m only focusing on sports here. I was really impressed with the layout and usability of the sports prediction section. There is a handy drop down menu that lists all the sport sub categories, and each individual game or event has some cool price trend graphics, and a host of info explaining fees, and how the trade contracts work - it’s all beginner friendly.

In terms of what you can trade, I found the following Robinhood sports prediction markets when creating this guide:

Baseball, boxing, college baseball, college basketball, cricket, esports, golf, MMA, pro basketball, pro football, pro hockey, racing, rugby, soccer, and tennis.

That’s a pretty extensive list, but as I mentioned above, there isn’t any coverage for less-popular sports. Perhaps that will come in time though. Regardless, I was most impressed with the US pro league and college sports sections and I think these have the most detailed and available predictions. You can see some examples of live sports predictions I saw in the below table:

For each prediction, the different potential options are displayed, together with the current trade contract prices. A useful feature that I have not seen at many other sites is the price breakdown which is shown on the right-hand side. This allows you to enter your trade contract quantity for a specific selection, and it gives you a potential return including fees.

Another area I think Robinhood excels are the prediction categories for each sport. It goes one step further than simply offering outright winner trade contracts, and for most sports you have the following options:

  • Outright match winners
  • Specials
  • Season outcomes
  • League leaders
  • Win totals
  • Awards

For example, with NBA action, you can buy and sell trade contracts for the outright winner of regular season games. However, there are also markets for season outcomes such as the Eastern and Western Conference Champions, plus end of season awards like the regular season MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Sixth Man of the Year, and Rookie of the Year. I haven’t really seen many other sports prediction sites that give you this much potential detail and variety.

How to Get Started at Robinhood to Trade Sports Predictions

If you want to use any of the Robinhood services such as its investment tools or its prediction trading site you have to create an account and you should be able to do this by following these steps:

  1. Use our Robinhood banners to open the site.
  2. Click the sign up button.
  3. Confirm your region.
  4. Enter the required details.
  5. Complete initial verification.
  6. Log in to your new account.

Please remember that you are creating a generic Robinhood account which gives you access to all its features - there isn’t a specific Robinhood predictions account that you can make. Due to the security features and KYC policy of the site, there will be various verification steps required which could include email and SMS verification, plus a full KYC check, but this could vary per person.

Finally, before you start looking at the Robinhood sports markets, you’ll have to credit your account, and I also recommend taking the time to learn how the trade process works, and the associated Robinhood fees so you know what potential return you can get from settling your trade contracts.

Conclusion - Robinhood Has a Top Range of Sports Predictions to Trade

Despite this being one of the lesser-known prediction trading sites, I was incredibly impressed with the Robinhood sports predictions and I believe that it has one of the most comprehensive sports sections. A particular area it excels is with college sports predictions, so if you love NCAA action for football, basketball, or baseball, this has the chance of being a great choice. If you want to try it for yourself, you can use the Robinhood app or simply click the banners I’ve put on this page and go through the sign up process today.
