Best Panthers Betting Lines 2023
The Carolina Panthers have a new starting quarterback.
Former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield struggled down the stretch of last season, and his future in Cleveland was written on the wall after the Browns acquired Deshaun Watson in March.
In Carolina, Mayfield is taking over the starting job from fellow 2018 first-round pick Sam Darnold, who has also had his fair share of struggles in the NFL. Darnold split time as the starter last season with Cam Newton, and the Panthers finished were one of the worst teams in the NFC and finished with a 5-12 record.
Carolina had a solid draft, as they addressed their main holes on the offensive line and at quarterback. They selected cornerstone left tackle Ikem Ekwonu with the sixth overall pick and added Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral in the third round.
Mayfield’s addition will be a welcome one for the Panthers and head coach Matt Rhule, who is certainly on the hot seat. While the team is still trying to find the right pieces, Mayfield gives them the best chance to win games this season.
Let’s discuss some futures odds that can present solid betting value within this rebuilding squad.

Panthers Super Bowl 57 Odds
Panthers to Win Super Bowl (+10000)
All in all, the Panthers are a long-shot to make the playoffs and win their division. The addition of Mayfield did move their Super Bowl odds from 125:1 down to 100:1, but they are currently tied for the fifth-longest odds to raise the Lombardi Trophy heading into the season.
The offense, outside of Christian McCaffrey and D.J. Moore, leaves a lot to be desired. The defense isn’t great, either.
Stay away despite the jackpot-type odds.
Panthers NFC Championship Odds
Panthers to Win NFC Championship (+5000)
Carolina is currently listed at (+5000) odds to win the NFC Championship at FanDuel.
While the NFC is quite top-heavy, the Panthers still figure to bring up the rear of the conference. The Rams are viewed by many as the best team in the NFC and there is no reasonable scenario where the Panthers topple them.
The NFC also includes Tom Brady and the Buccaneers and Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Despite the nice odds, it is extremely tough to consider putting the Panthers in the mix, even with Mayfield.
Panthers NFC South Winner Odds
Panthers to Win NFC South (+1500)
The NFC South is one of the weakest divisions in the NFL outside of the Buccaneers. The Saints are currently in the middle of a rebuild in the wake of Drew Brees‘ retirement, and the Falcons figure to be among the league’s worst teams as well.
The Panthers will likely be fighting with New Orleans and Atlanta for second fiddle behind the Bucs, but their odds of overtaking Tampa Bay and winning the division are slim.
Panthers Make Playoffs Odds
Panthers to Make Playoffs (+400)
The Panthers’ odds of reaching the playoffs moved from 5:1 to 4:1 after acquiring Mayfield, which makes sense. He’s likely a slight upgrade over Darnold, but this roster still has plenty of holes and could be in for another long campaign after a dreadful year in 2021.
If the Panthers were to make the playoffs, it would be a surprise. This move might catapult Carolina past the Falcons in the NFC South landscape, but it doesn’t move the needle enough to really change the season’s outlook.
Panthers Win Total Bets 2023
Panthers: UNDER 6.5 Wins (-125)
Before the addition of Mayfield, this line was set at 5.5 wins with the Under juiced at (+100) and the Over at (-125). Now, things have gotten a bit more interesting with the Over juiced at 6.5 wins.
The Panthers have the 12th-toughest strength of schedule in 2022 based on their opponents’ 2021 records, but a handful of their games are winnable. The schedule features home games with the Browns (in Week 1, no less), Steelers, and Lions as well as both sets of divisional games against the Falcons and Saints, plus a visit to the Giants.
The rest of the schedule is pretty brutal, so Carolina will have to find seven wins out of those games to hit the Over. I just don’t see it.
Panthers Prop Bets 2023
Panthers: Finish 3rd in NFC South (+115)
I absolutely love this prop, and the (+115) odds on it are too favorable to pass up. Out of all the Panthers bets discussed in this writing so far, this is by far my favorite one.
The Buccaneers to win the NFC South is about as close to a lock as you can find. The divisional picture behind them is a bit murkier, but when sorting it out, the Panthers are now easily the third-best team in the NFC South. The Saints should be better than Carolina by a few wins, and the Falcons could realistically win fewer than five games.
The Panthers will not hit this prop by playing well, but by playing less atrociously than the Falcons.
Baker Mayfield: Wins Comeback Player of the Year (+1600)
This award is typically reserved for players that are coming off major injuries, but Mayfield has moved into favorites territory after swapping teams.
His stock is at an all-time low after dealing with nagging injuries and suffering major statistical regression across the board last season, but a strong bounce-back campaign in Carolina could change his narrative quickly.
Mayfield’s candidacy truly begins in Week 1, when he faces the Browns in the revenge game of all revenge games. If he torches Cleveland and then carries that momentum into the rest of the season, he’s got a chance to win one of the NFL’s many quarterback-partial awards.
Christian McCaffrey: Wins Offensive Player of the Year (+2500)
McCaffrey is one of the most dynamic players in the NFL when he’s healthy. However, this is a big risk considering he has not played a full season since 2019 and managed to feature in just ten games over the past two seasons.
This is a tough bet to place, but a small wager on such favorable odds is a nice play. McCaffrey will need to stay fully healthy to even have a chance at this, but with the Panthers in a world of hurt offensively, he should continue his high usage role in 2022.
How to Bet Panthers Moneylines
NFL moneyline wagers are among the easiest you can make when it comes to football betting. To win this type of bet, all you need to do is correctly pick the winner of the game.
If the team you’re wanting to bet on is favored to win the game, they’ll have a minus symbol (-135) next to their odds. If they’re an underdog, you’ll see a plus symbol (+135) by their number.
If the Panthers are playing the Falcons, for example, they may be a (-120) favorite. In this case, you would need to bet $12 to win $10. On the other hand, if the Panthers are taking on the Buccaneers, they may be a (+180) underdog. Here, a $10 bet would earn you $18.

How to Bet Panthers Spreads
Eager to bet spreads? Here, you’ll be presented with two evenly-priced options, which are associated with the number of points that the team is expected to win or lose by.
If Carolina is a 6.5-point underdog against the Saints, the spread would appear as such at a sportsbook: Panthers +6.5 (-110) vs Saints -6.5 (-110).
In this scenario, the Panthers would need to win the game outright or lose by fewer than six points to cover the spread.

How to Bet Panthers Over/Unders
Betting Over/Unders is another productive way to wager on NFL games. Rather than predicting the winner or margin of victory in a game, here you’ll be focusing only on how many points are scored.
Before the game, oddsmakers will set the total number of points that they anticipate will be scored in the game. Then, it’s up to you to choose whether the Over or Under will hit, meaning more or less points than the projected total.
