The 2024 MLB season is underway, so it’s time to take a look at the odds and best bets for the American League.
There are a number of contenders for the AL Pennant, so it should be an interesting season.

Let’s start off our American League preview by crossing off some non-contenders from this list.
The Athletics and White Sox are both rebuilding, while the Angels just lost Shohei Ohtani, so we can remove them from contention.
The Royals are slowly improving, featuring young talents like Bobby Witt Jr. and Cole Ragans, but it’s hard to see them taking a leap this year.
The Red Sox have some young talent, but they’re still a couple of years away.
That leaves us with 10 potential contenders for the AL Pennant in the 2024 MLB season.
American League Pennant Best Bet 2024
Seattle Mariners (+900)

When I’m looking for the best bet for the AL Pennant, I’m not merely seeking out the best team on paper. I want to find an undervalued team with a viable path to getting to the World Series.
The Mariners fit the bill, primarily due to their stacked starting rotation, which includes Luis Castillo, George Kirby, and Logan Gilbert.
Bryce Miller can make the leap into a frontline starter, featuring a new splitter that could help address his issue vs lefties.
Bryan Woo is currently injured with elbow inflammation, so hopefully he can come back because he’s got elite command, adding yet another strong piece to this group.
The rotation is backed up by a bullpen with electric arms like Andres Munoz, who looks ready to become one of the elite closers in MLB.
The offense is weaker than other contenders, but Julio Rodriguez is a legitimate superstar, while Jorge Polanco was a nice veteran addition.
When you consider the (+900) odds, it’s easy to see why the Mariners are my best bet for the 2024 AL Pennant.
American League Pennant Contender 2024
New York Yankees (+500)

The Yankees are my preferred contender for the AL Pennant because this lineup is going to be a major problem for opposing pitchers.
Juan Soto joins the Yankees in a contract year, bringing an elite bat to pair with Aaron Judge. These are two of the best hitters in baseball, giving New York an imposing duo in the heart of their lineup.
Anthony Volpe looks terrific in spring training, while Gleyber Torres is another player headed for a big year with the added motivation of looking for a new contract.
While the starting rotation will be without Gerrit Cole for a while, Carlos Rodon and Nestor Cortes are healthy, so they should provide a boost to this group.
It’s also worth noting that Luis Gil has looked fantastic this spring, winning the fifth spot in the rotation. This is a breakout candidate who can elevate this staff.
The bullpen remains strong, led by closer Clay Holmes, who is one of the most underrated relievers in MLB right now.
The Yankees are second behind the Astros in odds, but this improved offense makes New York my top contender for the 2024 AL Pennant.

American League Pennant Sleeper 2024
Detroit Tigers (+2500)

The Tigers are my top sleeper for the AL Pennant due to a deep starting rotation that looks poised to take off in 2024.
Tarik Skubal looks like a legitimate ace, while Kenta Maeda and Jack Flaherty are bounce-back candidates after strong springs.
Former top prospect Casey Mize has also had a great spring training. Add on more talented arms like Reese Olson, Matt Manning, Jackson Jobe, and Sawyer Gipson-Long, and you can see why this group is so deep.
The lineup is headlined by a couple of young breakout candidates in Parker Meadows (power-speed upside) and Riley Greene (former top prospect).
Add in Spencer Torkelson, who showcases his 30+ home run power last year, and you can start to see the development of an imposing lineup.
While the bullpen is a question mark, Detroit did add Shelby Miller, who is coming off a strong season with the Dodgers.
The Tigers look like a nice value play to win the 2024 AL Pennant due to their appealing (+2500) odds.
