Scoring isn’t the problem for the Lions, who are averaging a league-best 35 points per game. Instead, it’s the defense, which is surrendering a league-worst 35.3 points per game. Fortunately for Detroit, this Patriots offense may be the least explosive it’s seen this season.
The passing attack is nothing to write home about, even if Mac Jones were healthy. Rookie QB Bailey Zappe made some impressive throws in his debut, but this is still a Patriots passing game that ranks 22nd in yards and 27th in touchdowns.
The rushing game, however, is enough to put the Lions on notice. Detroit has allowed the most rushing touchdowns in the NFL thus far and is giving up 5.6 yards per carry, which is the worst mark in the league. New England ranks ninth in rushing attempts and fifth in touchdowns.
Neither one of these defenses is equipped to handle what’s coming to them this weekend, so I’m anticipating a high-scoring affair that could truly be anybody’s game. I do think this Lions offense has the juice to get the job done, though, so I’ll lean with them.
