Both teams will have new presences in the net to open the 2021-2022 NHL season. The Chicago Blackhawks traded for veteran goalie Marc-Andre Fleury from the Vegas Golden Knights in the off-season in a surprising move by Vegas.
Fleury was excellent last season, posting a .921 save percentage and allowing just 1.98 goals per game. Fleury collected the hardware last season as well, winning both the Vezina Trophy and Jennings Trophy.
The Blackhawks will look to return to prominence and contention behind Fleury after losing their strength from the early 2010s.
The Avs will also have a new face in the net in the form of nine-year veteran Darcy Kuemper. The 31-year-old goaltender was traded this past offseason after spending time with the Minnesota Wild, Los Angeles Kings and most recently, the Arizona Coyotes.
The Avalanche are one of the best teams in the league and will look to get back into the Stanley Cup playoffs once again behind some new faces.
Both of these goaltenders are excellent in their own right, but it may take them some time getting used to game flow, as is normal at the beginning of the NHL season. Still, I find immense value on the total in this matchup.

NHL Bet Of The Day: Avalanche/Blackhawks Under 6.5 Total Goals (-115) at BetMGM
Wager: 1 Unit
The Avalanche and Blackhawks both have solid goalies and Colorado’s defense in particular is among the best in the league. I expect a very low-scoring game in this one. Look for the Avs and Blackhawks to combine for Under 6.5 goals in our NHL bet of the day.
