2021 NHL Parlay Predictions & Best Bets October 13 | Hockey Play of the Day 10/13/21

Opening night in the NHL featured a major surprise, with the Pittsburgh Penguins taking care of business in Tampa Bay despite missing Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. There were a couple of high-scoring games with both hitting the Over. This resulted in a poor night for our parlays.

Tonight we have five games on the slate, including three divisional matchups: the Montreal Canadiens vs. Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers vs. Washington Capitals, and Vancouver Canucks vs. Edmonton Oilers. Let’s dive in to find out why these three games sparked my interest.

Montreal Canadiens Moneyline (+150)

The Montreal Canadiens were last year’s Stanley Cup finalists. While goaltender Carey Price is currently dealing with some personal issues, Jake Allen is a capable backup. The team has dynamic forwards like Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield along with a strong defensive system coached by Dominique Ducharme.

The Toronto Maple Leafs project as one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, but they’ll be without their best player Auston Matthews tonight. When you combine that with the familiarity between these two division rivals, you have a live underdog in the Canadiens in this spot.

New York Rangers Moneyline (+105)

The Rangers underachieved last year, missing the playoffs despite being stacked with talents such as Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, Alexis Lafreniere, Adam Fox and Igor Shesterkin. They’re now coached by Gerard Gallant, who helped Vegas get to the Stanley Cup Finals. Gallant should be able to get this team on the right track. The Rangers look like a dark horse in the East.

The Capitals are still one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference, but they’ll be without top center Nicklas Backstrom, who is dealing with a hip injury. This puts the Rangers firmly in play for a road upset in this spot. I expect Gallant to have them flying in his coaching debut with the team.

Vancouver Canucks Moneyline (+145)

The Canucks were another disappointing team that underperformed expectations last season, but that was mostly due to injuries. They’re now healthy and improved with the additions of Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland. This team looks really nice on paper with studs like Elias Pettersson, Bo Horvat and Quinn Hughes.

The Oilers are obviously a dynamic team led by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, but the moneyline is too high against a good team like Vancouver. The Canucks are another live dog in this game to complete our longshot parlay. You have to love the value in this spot.
