Texas vs Virginia Tech Predictions | Best Bets & Odds

Last Updated: Mar 18, 2022

The 6 vs 11 matchup in the East pits two teams that are coming into the tournament on opposite ends of the momentum spectrum.

Virginia Tech stormed through the ACC tournament, beating Notre Dame, North Carolina, and Duke to win the title and secure a spot in this year’s field of 68.

Texas, on the other hand, is stumbling into this year’s NCAA Tournament, losing three consecutive games to end the season. Texas was ranked No. 5 in the Preseason AP poll but finished No. 25 in the final poll after another underwhelming season.

Let’s get into the best bets and picks for this exciting matchup!

Texas vs Virginia Tech Prediction

With Texas favored by one point in this contest, Vegas doesn’t see these two teams separated by much. In that case, backing the team coming into the tournament with more momentum and playing their best basketball right now is the way to go.

Virginia Tech finally put it together in the ACC Tournament and proved their offensive efficiency that most expected all season.

Per KenPom, Virginia Tech finished as the 18th-best team in adjusted offensive rating. Couple that with the Hokies’ incredibly slow pace of play, and you have a team that is going to be very hard to beat.

Virginia Tech ranked 344th in adjusted tempo this season, and Texas was not so far behind at 341st. This game will be slow and won in the half court, and I’m going to back the team that is more efficient on the offensive end.

Texas vs Virginia Tech Score Pick

Virginia Tech 61, Texas 56

As mentioned above, I like Virginia Tech to win a slow-paced game. The first team to 60 points is going to win this game, and will be playing the Under as well.

Texas has failed to score 63 points in each of its last three games (all losses), and I expect that trend to continue in this matchup.

Texas vs Virginia Tech Best Bets

Virginia Tech Moneyline (-105) at Caesars

Wager: 1 Unit

One of the hottest teams in college basketball right now and a team that no one wants to play is Virginia Tech. We’ve seen teams that had amazing conference tournament runs take that momentum into the NCAA Tournament and succeed in the past, like Kemba Walker’s UConn team in 2011.

Virginia Tech is playing with a lot of confidence right now, and if they continue to hit their outside shot, they’ll be a team to keep an eye on.

UNDER 123.5 Total Points (-110) at Caesars Sportsbook

Wager: 1 Unit

Two teams that play at a snail’s pace face off against each other. If you want a high-flying offensive matchup with a lot of points, then this isn’t the game for you.

Texas is also capable of forcing turnovers on the defensive end and dragging this game out. Take the Under in this matchup.
