Purdue fell one win short of winning the Big Ten tournament, but now is their real test.
The Boilermakers were my team to beat at the beginning of the season, and I thought for sure they’d be a No. 1 seed in this year’s March Madness tournament. Unfortunately, they’re merely a No. 3 seed due to their defensive woes, as they don’t look like a contender on that side of the ball.
Yale knocked off Princeton in the Ivy League final to book their ticket to the dance. The Bulldogs went 0-4 against tournament teams, however, making them unlikely to pull off a huge upset when they clash with the Boilermakers at 2 p.m. ET on Friday, March 18.

Purdue vs Yale Prediction
This one is a no-brainer. Despite Purdue’s struggles on the defensive end of late, especially defending the pick and roll, they should still cruise against Yale. Their size alone gives them a substantial advantage in this contest.

Look for the Boilermakers to exploit this edge by feeding their star center Zach Edey, who is 7-foot-4. The Bulldogs don’t have anyone taller than 6-foot-10 on their roster, so Edey is going to have at least half a foot on anyone trying to guard him.
Accordingly, Edey should feast in the paint on the glass, helping Purdue roll to an easy victory.

Purdue 80, Yale 62
Purdue will take care of business, but Yale should still be able to put up points against Purdue’s leaky defense.
The total is going to come down to the last minutes of the game, and hopefully the Boilermakers don’t leave the backdoor open for the Bulldogs.

Purdue should dominate this game from the start and the score could get ugly quickly. I have no lean on the game’s total as a blowout can be unpredictable on how the game will end.
