On Tuesday night, the Indiana Hoosiers (20-13) and Wyoming Cowboys (25-8) will meet in the second of the First Four NCAA Tournament games. This clash between 12-seeds will determine who plays Saint Mary’s, the 5-seed in the East region.
Both of these teams did well to get to this spot. Wyoming lost a close contest to Boise State, the eventual Mountain West winner, while Indiana defeated Michigan and Illinois before falling to Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament.
Indiana has the clear edge in the Pomeroy ratings, coming in at a respectable 36th. Wyoming, despite having the better overall record, stands at 58th.

The Indiana Hoosiers boast one of the best collective defenses in the nation, while Wyoming counters with a more balanced attack on both ends of the floor.
Indiana should be able to control the pace of this game by way of their defensive intensity, but during March Madness, anything can happen.

This game could be one of the closest battles throughout the entire NCAA tournament. I don’t expect either team to pull away in this one and actually believe that a one-possession game is likely here.

Both of these teams are evenly matched, and neither of them are powerhouse schools. Indiana has played tougher opponents throughout the season and has hung with them. Wyoming is far less battle-tested, leading me to believe in the Hoosiers just a bit more here.

Indiana’s defense could keep this game Under, but Wyoming’s offense could provide a nice counter. Wyoming’s offense is built to exploit the chinks within the armor of Indiana’s defense, and if they have any say about the pace in this game, the Over should hit comfortably.
