Eagles vs Giants Predictions Week 12 | NFL Pick of the Day

The NFC East is a mess behind the Dallas Cowboys, but are the Philadelphia Eagles surging at the perfect time? The Eagles have won three out of their last four games, and they were nearly able to defeat the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 9 to make it four straight wins.

All three of Philadelphia’s wins in the past four weeks were double-digit victories, including impressive wins over the Denver Broncos on the road and the New Orleans Saints. Following their win over the Saints, the Eagles will travel to take on the New York Giants in Week 12.

The Giants are, how can I put this nicely, not very good at football. New York is 3-7 this season and are coming off a 20-point loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. There’s a decent chance the Giants have their fifth-straight season of having six or fewer wins when this season concludes.

Eagles vs Giants Prediction

Is this the week that the Eagles get Miles Sanders more involved in the offense? Sanders has been relatively quiet this season with 394 rushing yards and zero touchdowns in eight games.

The Penn State product did have his best game of the season in Week 11, rushing for 94 yards on 16 attempts against the Saints’ stout run defense. If there’s a week he can find the end zone and possibly eclipse 100 rushing yards, it’s this week against New York’s 30th-ranked defense in rush DVOA.

The biggest difference for the Eagles in recent weeks has been the improved play from Jalen Hurts at quarterback. Hurts has done enough through the air with 487 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in the past three weeks, while rushing for 186 yards and three scores in that same span.

The Eagles’ defense has also been getting takeaways at a decent rate, forcing four turnovers in the past two weeks alone. That doesn’t bode well for the Giants’ offense and their quarterback Daniel Jones, who is prone to making mistakes.

The good news for the Giants is that they are beginning to get healthier on offense. Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney, and Andrew Thomas are back, with Sterling Shepard having a chance to return in Week 12.

If the Giants are going to have any chance of beating their division rivals, they’ll need to deploy a heavy dose of Barkley against Philadelphia’s 20th-ranked defense in rush DVOA. But even with Barkley back and other members of the offense getting healthier, Hurts will prove to be too much for the Giants to handle on Sunday.

Prediction: Eagles 30, Giants 20

Relying on either of these teams to get us back on track seems like a treacherous endeavor. However, the Eagles are seemingly discovering their identity as a team under new head coach, Nick Sirianni.

What the Eagles are doing is having Hurts throw the ball less and using their run game to create for their aerial attack. On the defensive side of the ball, Philadelphia excels at stopping the pass, with guys like Darius Slay making plays that lead to points.

Once again, this seems like a perfect week for Sanders to be heavily involved in the offense for the Eagles. Also, rookie DeVonta Smith is poised for another productive week against the middling secondary of the Giants.

One mistake is all it could take to decide the outcome of this game for either side. If I were to wager on which quarterback will make a game-altering mistake, I’d give the slight edge to Jones. While Hurts and Sanders run rampant on the below-average run defense of the Giants, I’ll take the Eagles to win by at least four points on the road.

Despite being 1-4 against the spread in their last five meetings with the Giants, the Eagles are 4-2 ATS as the road team this season. On the other hand, New York has covered the spread in only two of their five home contests thus far.

Neither of these teams would make any of the media’s lists of elite NFL offenses. That said, the Eagles are scoring at the eighth-best clip in the NFL, averaging 27 points per game.

The Giants are 24th in the NFL with only 18.9 points per game in what can be a lifeless offense at times. Still, both the Eagles and the Giants are 12th and 13th in pace this season, respectively.

Also, with the firing of Jason Garrett as the Giants’ offensive coordinator, we could see much-improved play on offense. In the same breath, you could also argue that the firing of Garrett could create a distraction this week, but I’m not too concerned with that happening with professional players.

We could very well get a faster-paced game between two divisional opponents on Sunday. The Eagles should have no issues moving the ball and scoring points, so for us to reach the over of 45.5 points, we just need the Giants to do their part.

Philadelphia has scored 30+ points in three out of their last four games, and they’ve hit the Over in four of their past five games. Even with New York hitting the Under in four of their last five, the Over is 8-1 in the last nine matchups between the Eagles and the Giants.
