Timberwolves Odds, Spreads, & Props 2024

Last Updated: Aug 21, 2023

The Minnesota Timberwolves are on the rise. The team has qualified for the playoffs in back-to-back years for the first time since 2004, and with one of the game’s most exciting young talents in Anthony Edwards, the future looks bright.

As such, now is an equally exciting time to gauge the market for Timberwolves prop bets. The Western Conference looks as competitive as ever, and that can help us find some value on Minnesota ahead of the 2023-24 NBA season.

Here are just a few of the best Timberwolves prop bets for this season.

Timberwolves: Make the Playoffs (-155)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 2 Units

Minnesota has qualified for the postseason in each of the last two years, and I don’t expect that streak to end now. This team has a terrific trio in Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Rudy Gobert, and there are several other key players on the roster who still have room to grow.

Of course, it’ll come down to Edwards to determine how big a leap this group can make in 2023-24. The 22-year-old is already one of the best players in the league, and his tenacity and hunger for greatness should only continue to be a motivating factor for him.

Health is also something worth considering with this team. The Timberwolves won 42 games this past year despite Towns appearing in just 29 contests, and he’s long been a reliable presence for Minnesota.

If the Timberwolves can stay healthy and stay competitive with the rest of the West, they should end up with one of the conference’s lower playoff seeds. Back them to make it with your NBA bet of the day.

Timberwolves: Make Play-In Tournament (+125)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 1 Unit

Although I expect the Timberwolves to be a playoff team, it wouldn’t shock me if they had to go through the Play-In Tournament along the way. The West is stacked, and there may not be a path for Minnesota to earn one of the top six seeds.

The Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Phoenix Suns, and Sacramento Kings are all teams that I feel are more likely than not to make the playoffs, and that doesn’t include some others on the fringe.

Of course, strange things happen in the NBA playoff race, which is part of what makes betting (and basketball) so unpredictable. However, the Timberwolves have the talent to hold their own against most teams in the league, which is why I like them to head to the play-in and ultimately advance.

Anthony Edwards: NBA MVP (+4000)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 0.25 Units

Ant is on the cusp of becoming one of the faces of the NBA. It’s easy to take what he does on the court for granted, but this is a guy who’s entering his age-22 season and just averaged 24.6 points per game last year.

Edwards has made statistical improvements almost across the board in each of his three seasons as well. In 2022-23, he averaged career-highs in rebounds (5.8), assists (4.4), and steals (1.6) while notching new high marks in field goal percentage (45.9%) and three-point percentage (36.9%).

Winning this award might be a stretch, but considering his place in the NBA MVP odds, he’s at least expected to be a candidate in the race. I’m buying all the stock now before the season begins and sprinkling a little money on this prop at (+4000) odds.

How to Bet on Timberwolves Games 2024

How to Bet Timberwolves Moneylines

Moneyline bets are a great place to start for new sports bettors. To win this type of wager, all you have to do is correctly pick the winner of a game. When they win, you win your bet, too.

Moneyline odds vary with each game, so it’s not always a wise strategy to bet on your favorite team each time. Whether they’re favorites (indicated by a minus symbol) or underdogs (indicated by a plus symbol), your payout for picking the winner will rarely be the same.

The Timberwolves were a middling team in 2022-23, finishing with a 42-40 record. That can make it difficult to determine if it’s a good time to bet their moneyline or not, so it won’t always be the best bet available.

How to Bet Timberwolves Spreads

Rather than dealing with winners and losers, spreads provide a better understanding of how a team lives up to expectations on a given night. This is by measuring how they perform against the spread, which is essentially a predetermined margin of victory (or defeat) for a game.

For example, if the Timberwolves have a home matchup with the Nuggets, they might be slight underdogs. At a sportsbook, that would look like this: Timberwolves +3.5 (-110) vs Nuggets -3.5 (-110).

In this case, the Timberwolves would either need to win the game outright or lose by less than 3.5 points. Alternatively, for the Nuggets to cover the spread, they would have to win by more than 3.5 points.

Minnesota went 40-42 against the spread in 2022-23, signaling that it was essentially a toss-up if the team would perform as expected on a given night.

How to Bet Timberwolves Over/Unders

Are you expecting a close game? Perhaps you’re unsure of which team will come out on top? If that’s the case, Over/Unders may be the way to go.

Unlike moneyline and spread bets, Over/Unders (also known as totals) deal with the total points scored in a game. For example, if the total between the Nuggets and Timberwolves is set at 223.5, the Over would hit if more than 223.5 points are scored; otherwise, the Under is the winning bet.

Higher-scoring teams will generally hit Overs more often — especially if they don’t offer much on defense — but it’s unusual to see one team be extremely Over- or Under-heavy.
