Thunder Odds, Spreads, & Props 2024

Last Updated: Aug 22, 2023

The Oklahoma City Thunder are one of the league’s true dark horses entering the 2023-24 season. After making a dramatic improvement from 24 wins in 2021-22 to 40 in 2022-23, many are expecting big things from OKC ahead of the new campaign.

Sixth-year guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a big reason why. The 25-year-old was named an All-Star and earned First Team All-NBA honors this past season after averaging 31.4 points, 5.5 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game.

With an up-and-coming roster and one of the league’s best young coaches on the sidelines in Mark Daigneault, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the Thunder in 2023-24. Let’s take a look at the best Oklahoma City Thunder prop bets for the coming NBA season.

Thunder: Over 44.5 Wins (-105)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 1 Unit

Oklahoma City posted 40 wins in 2022-23, and that wasn’t a fluke. The Thunder were almost equally effective on both ends of the floor (16th in offensive rating, 13th in defensive), and the breakout performance from Gilgeous-Alexander was only a preview of what’s to come.

Now, this Thunder core gets another year older and adds an exciting young face in Chet Holmgren, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Despite missing the entirety of his rookie year with a foot injury, Holmgren should be able to step in right away and make a difference.

The Western Conference did get tougher this summer, but the Thunder got tougher with it. This is still quite a young team, but there’s reason to buy into the hype.

Lock in the Thunder to win at least 45 games in 2023-24 and make this your NBA bet of the day.

Thunder: Make Playoffs (-145)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 2 Units

Oklahoma City hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2019-20, when Chris Paul came in and helped lead the team to a 44-28 record. The Thunder have slowly built back up since then, and they’re now in position to make another postseason push.

It won’t be an easy path. Other more-likely-than-not contenders include the New Orleans Pelicans, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Dallas Mavericks, but the West is utterly stacked with talent, and there will be more than one deserving team that doesn’t make the cut.

However, regardless of their youth and inexperience, the Thunder are one team that I feel strongly about making it into the playoffs. Gilgeous-Alexander has every right to be an MVP candidate, the depth is legitimate, and this team knows how to get it done on both ends of the floor.

Chet Holmgren: NBA Rookie of the Year (+250)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 0.5 Units

Holmgren has some stiff competition in San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama, but I anticipate this being a close competition. Holmgren’s side has a much better chance of enjoying regular-season success, but time will tell if he can put up the numbers necessary to earn this recognition.

Even still, there are plenty of reasons to get behind Holmgren’s NBA ROTY campaign. The 21-year-old is still a unicorn when it comes to his size and skill set, and because he won’t be his team’s No. 1 option or command as much of the spotlight, he likely won’t face as much scrutiny.

With all eyes on Wembanyama, this is a perfect opportunity for Holmgren to prove why he should also be considered a generational prospect. Judging by the latest NBA Rookie of the Year odds, he may not be that far behind.

How to Bet on Thunder Games 2024

How to Bet Thunder Moneylines

Moneylines are the easiest type of bet to understand, which makes this a great way to start wagering on the Thunder. To win a moneyline wager, all you need to do is correctly choose which team will win a given game. Pick right, and you’re in for some extra cash.

You can potentially make more money by betting on underdogs (indicated by a plus symbol), but because favorites generally win games, that’s not always a sound strategy. A balance of betting on favorites and underdogs is ideal as you try to find value when you can.

The Thunder went 40-42 straight-up last season, meaning it wasn’t always a great idea to bet on their moneyline. However, Oklahoma City did go 23-32 as an underdog, which was one of the highest win percentages in the league last season under those conditions.

How to Bet Thunder Spreads

Spread betting is a great indicator of how well a team does against their expected performance. The spread, which is essentially a point differential for a given game, is the number of points that oddsmakers expect the matchup to be decided by.

The Thunder went 45-34-3 against the spread in 2022-23, which was the third-best record in the league. Given that OKC greatly surpassed expectations last year — their win total was set at just 23.5 entering the season — it makes sense that they were one of the best teams in the league against the spread.

To bet the spread, you’ll first want to look at what it’s set at. Underdogs are indicated by a plus symbol, so if the Thunder were taking on the Nuggets, it might look like this at a sportsbook: Thunder +7.5 (-110) at Nuggets -7.5 (-110).

For the Thunder to cover the spread and you to win your bet, they would need to either win the game or lose by less than 7.5 points. Otherwise, if Denver wins by more than 7.5 points, the Nuggets would cover instead.

How to Bet Thunder Over/Unders

Over/Under wagers do away with winners and losers and instead focus on scoring. These bets — also called totals — are predetermined marks that are an estimate of the total number of points scored by both teams in a game.

If that same Thunder - Nuggets contest had a total of 229.5 points, the Over would hit if more than 229.5 points were scored, while the Under would be the winning wager if less than 229.5 points were scored.

Thunder games generally went Over last season, indicating that either they or their opponent often scored more points than expected.

  • 2022-23 Thunder Over/Under Record: 46-36
