Mavericks Odds, Spreads, & Props 2024

Last Updated: Aug 16, 2023

The Dallas Mavericks had one of the most disappointing seasons of any NBA team in 2022-23. After reaching the Western Conference Finals in 2021-22, Dallas failed to so much as qualify for the play-in tournament this past year, finishing with a 38-44 record.

Talent wasn’t the issue — the Mavs had Luka Dončić on hand all season, and by trading for Kyrie Irving, the franchise acquired one of the most talented scorers of this era. The hope is that after a full summer together, Dallas will come out more closely resembling a playoff team in 2023-24.

With the general uncertainty regarding the Mavs’ performance this season, there’s plenty of value to be had by wagering on Mavericks prop bets. Here are some of my favorites for the coming year.

Mavericks: Win Southwest Division (+185)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 1 Unit

The Mavericks stumbled down the stretch of the 2022-23 season, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to suggest that we’ve yet to see this current build at full strength. The combination of Dončić and Irving has absurd offensive potential, and Dallas made some nice improvements on the margins this summer.

That includes bringing in Grant Williams from the Boston Celtics, a reliable three-point shooter who takes pride in doing the dirty work. He’s the perfect complementary piece to Dončić and Irving, as he’ll relieve some of the pressure put on them on the defensive end of the floor.

Only the Memphis Grizzlies have shorter Southwest Division odds, but with Ja Morant‘s 25-game suspension looming, Dallas could be a better bet to rep the region. With that in mind, I’m locking in the Mavs with my NBA bet of the day.

Mavericks: Over 44.5 Wins (-115)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 1 Unit

Dallas went 5-11 in games with Dončić and Irving on the floor together last season, but the small sample (and the depletion of assets it took to acquire Irving) are likely to blame for its lack of success. The Mavericks were quick to re-sign Irving this summer, signaling the franchise’s confidence in the pairing.

And although the Western Conference got tougher this summer — Bradley Beal joining the Phoenix Suns and Chris Paul‘s trade to the Golden State Warriors stand out as big-time moves — the Mavericks have the personnel to hang with the best of them, especially on offense.

We know what Dončić and Irving are capable of, but complementary scorers like Tim Hardaway Jr. and Seth Curry should give this squad the boost it needs to succeed in the regular season, where defense is less of a priority.

Mavericks: Win Western Conference (+1200)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 0.25 Units

This prop is more of a stretch — hence the smaller wager — but I wouldn’t count the Mavericks out of the running to represent the Western Conference in the 2024 NBA Finals. Dallas sits in seventh in the Western Conference odds, but this team has a championship ceiling.

Dončić is one of the most special players in today’s game, and Irving is among the most talented scorers in NBA history. Few teams, if any, have the defensive chops to slow them down.

Dallas will have its own issues on defense, but it wouldn’t shock me to see it exceed expectations and make a run when it matters most. The Mavericks should outplay this price, making this a solid value at (+1200).

How to Bet on Mavericks Games 2024

How to Bet Mavericks Moneylines

Moneylines are about as simple as it gets when it comes to sports betting. To win this type of bet, all you have to do is pick the winner of the game.

Of course, it isn’t always quite that straightforward, and it also isn’t always the most advisable bet. For example, the Mavericks went 38-44 last season, and they were just 31-23 in games in which they were favored.

Because there isn’t as great of a return when betting on favorites, you would ideally want your team to have a higher win rate in those situations. On the other hand, Dallas went 7-21 as an underdog, highlighting that it wasn’t always a great choice to back this team in tough situations.

How to Bet Mavericks Spreads

Spread betting removes wins and losses from the equation and focuses on how well a team does against a specific point margin. Before a game, sportsbooks will set this margin depending on the venue, matchup, injuries, and more, and it’s essentially the total by which they expect the favorite to win.

Good teams and those with high expectations are generally favored in the majority of their games, but that doesn’t always mean they’ll cover the spread. For example, the Mavericks went a mere 16-36-2 against the spread as favorites this past year.

At a sportsbook, you can identify a favorite by the minus (-) symbol. If the Mavericks were favored by 6.5 points, for example, it would look like this (-6.5). In order to cover the spread, they would need to win the game by more than 6.5 points.

How to Bet Mavericks Over/Unders

Over/Unders are a great option when you’re unsure about the result of a specific game. If it’s one that could go either way, you should consider betting on the Over/Under, which is an estimate of the total number of points to be scored in a game.

If the Mavericks are playing the Suns this season, the total might be set around 234.5 points, since both teams are offensive-minded. If you believe there will be more than 234.5 points scored in that game, you would bet the Over. Otherwise, you’d back the Under.
