Jazz Odds, Spreads, & Props 2024

Last Updated: Aug 21, 2023

The Utah Jazz caught many around the league off guard in 2022-23, crushing their projected win total of 23.5 games and finishing with a 37-45 record. The emergence of Lauri Markkanen was a pleasant surprise, and the 26-year-old earned the Most Improved Player Award for his efforts.

Expectations have been set slightly higher for the Jazz in 2023-24, though few are anticipating a playoff run. The Western Conference improved dramatically over the summer, and although Utah made some solid moves, it’s clear that this group is still a touch behind other contenders.

With that said, there’s still plenty of value to be had in wagering on Jazz prop bets this season. Below, I’ve highlighted some of my favorites.

Jazz: Over 35.5 Wins (-130)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 1 Unit

The Jazz are a few tiers below the top players in the Western Conference, and there’s a good chance they’ll miss out on the playoffs again this coming year. That doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy a fair amount of regular-season success, though.

There aren’t many household names on this roster, but in addition to Markkanen, Collin Sexton, Jordan Clarkson, John Collins, and Walker Kessler stand out as starting-caliber players who would have a place on any other team in the NBA.

I’m particularly interested in seeing how the frontcourt pairing of Markkanen, Collins, and Kessler plays out this season. Collins is the shortest of the trio at 6-foot-9, and, like Markkanen, a change of scenery could be just what he needs to tap into his All-Star potential.

Jazz: Make Play-In Tournament (+225)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 0.5 Units

Utah just missed out on qualifying for the Play-In Tournament in 2022-23, finishing three games out of the No. 10 spot in the West despite going 37-45. Although the bottom half of the conference improved this summer and wins will be tougher to come by, I’m intrigued by this bet.

The Jazz were a .500 team as of Feb. 25, but a late-season spill sent them tumbling down the standings. With another year together and an improved roster, I could see Utah maintaining that level of play over the course of the season.

I’m not a huge believer in this team — the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, and Dallas Mavericks will all be competing for wins that weren’t there last season — but at (+225), I’m willing to lay a small wager here.

Walker Kessler: Defensive Player of the Year (+1500)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 0.25 Units

Kessler burst onto the scene as a rookie with the Jazz, averaging 9.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and an astounding 2.3 blocks in just 23 minutes per game. The 22-year-old already looks the part of an elite rim protector and has made the franchise’s transition from Rudy Gobert virtually seamless.

His block numbers aren’t just the best on the team, either. Kessler ranked fourth in total blocks (173) and blocks per game, finishing only behind Brook Lopez, Nic Claxton, and 2022-23 NBA DPOY Jaren Jackson Jr.

Kessler’s defensive efforts earned him First-Team All-Rookie honors, and he finished third in the Rookie of the Year vote as well. His numbers are sure to see a boost in Year 2 as he takes on a larger role (or at least averages more minutes per game), so he could be a genuine player in the Defensive Player of the Year race.

Jazz Betting in Utah

Online sports betting is currently unavailable in Utah, and it’s unlikely that it will be made legal in the foreseeable future. How to Bet on Jazz Games 2024

How to Bet Jazz Moneylines

Moneylines are the easiest type of sports bet to make. To win a moneyline wager, all you need to do is pick the winner of a game. If the team you picked goes on to earn the victory, you’ll cash out.

You can win more money by correctly picking underdogs — which are indicated by a plus (+) symbol — but it’s important to keep in mind that favorites generally win games, so striking a balance between chalk and upsets is paramount.

The Jazz were a surprise team of the 2022-23 season, and as such, they won plenty of games as underdogs. They won’t be such an unknown in 2023-24, but they should still earn their fair share of upsets, making them a potentially profitable team to bet on this coming year.

How to Bet Jazz Spreads

No team was better against the spread than the Jazz last season, which makes sense given the low expectations that Utah entered the season with. That made them one of the most valuable teams to bet on last season, but it remains to be seen if that trend will continue into 2023-24.

To successfully cover the spread, a team must either win by more than a predetermined number of points or lose by fewer than that same number. If the Jazz are playing the Nuggets, for example, the spread might look like this: Jazz +7.5 (-110) vs Nuggets -7.5 (-110).

For the Jazz to cover that spread as an underdog — which they often were in 2022-23 — they would have to either win the game outright or lose by 7.5 points or less. Spread betting is a good choice when you feel a team will keep it close but are unsure if they’ll actually win.

How to Bet Jazz Over/Unders

If you have a strong feeling that a game will be particularly high- or low-scoring, Over/Under bets are the way to go. These have nothing to do with winners and losers and instead focus on how many combined points are scored in a game.

The Jazz were one of the league’s highest-scoring teams in 2022-23, and as a result, Overs went 47-33-2. Utah also wasn’t so stellar on defense, which likely contributed to that Over win percentage being so high.
