Every four years, some of the best footballing nations in the world compete in the UEFA European Championship, vying for the crown as the top side on the continent.
Euro 2024 takes place this summer in Germany. The hosts will kick off the tournament against Scotland on Friday, June 14, with the Final scheduled for one month later on Sunday, July 14.
England, the pre-tournament favorites in our Euro 2024 odds, will look to bring home their first major international trophy since winning the World Cup in 1966. But there are several other contenders to win the trophy, including France, Portugal, Germany, Spain, and defending champions Italy.

Euro 2024 Format
Euro 2024 features 24 teams competing for the trophy across two separate rounds: the group stage and the knockout rounds.
Below, we break down how the tournament works.
Group Stage
The 24 teams are drawn into six groups of four. Each team faces every other side in its group once for a total of three games apiece.
The top two teams from each group automatically qualify for the knockout rounds. The best four third-place teams will also earn a trip to the Round of 16.
If two teams within the same group are tied on the same number of points, the first tiebreaker is their head-to-head matchup. Then, it moves on to goal differential and then, number of goals scored.
Since head-to-head matchups won’t be able to break the tie among third-place teams in different groups, the first tiebreaker for teams tied on points is goal differential and the second is goals scored.
The group stage is always fun to watch because there are no shortage of upsets. Expect at least one top nation to crash out in the group stage, although it is less likely now that three teams can advance from each group.
Knockout Rounds
The knockout rounds feature the Round of 16, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Final.
The matchups in the Round of 16 are pre-determined, as follows:
- 2nd in Group A vs 2nd in Group B
- 1st in Group A vs 2nd in Group C
- 1st in Group C vs 3rd in Group D/E/F
- 1st in Group B vs 3rd in Group A/D/E/F
- 2nd in Group D vs 2nd in Group E
- 1st in Group F vs 3rd in Group A/B/C
- 1st in Group E vs 3rd in Group A/B/C/D
- 1st in Group D vs 2nd in Group F
From there, teams will move through the bracket until we reach the Final in Berlin.
