Stars vs Wild Predictions & Best Bets

Last Updated: Apr 27, 2023

For better or for worse, Marcus Foligno and the Minnesota penalty kill became a lightning rod in the series between the Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild. Now, the Wild face elimination on Friday night at home.

Will the Stars vs Wild bets see a Game 7 over the weekend or does the series end in six games?

Stars vs Wild Game 6 Odds

NHL odds used for these best bets are current as of Thursday, April 27, at 9 a.m. ET and were found at BetMGM Sportsbook.

  • Moneyline: Wild (-115) • Stars (-105)
  • Puck Line: Wild -1.5 (+225) • Stars +1.5 (-275)
  • Total Goals Scored: Over 5.5 (+110) • Under 5.5 (-130)

Stars vs Wild Game 6 Prediction

Wild 3, Stars 2

While everyone seems to believe Minnesota is in deep trouble (they still might be), this game is just about a coin flip. Dallas played seven games last year. Minnesota remembers losing three straight contests last year.

If there was a time for Kirill Kaprizov to light the lamp, it is now. The Russian has one goal in five games on 14 shots. He and the Wild have had their opportunities.

Jake Oettinger’s stellar goaltending has put Minnesota on the brink along with Tyler Seguin and the Dallas power play. The time is now for Kaprizov and the Minnesota offense.

Stars vs Wild Game 6 Best Bets

Wild Moneyline (-115) • BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.25 Units

This NHL best bet appears ready to roll. Minnesota likes playing close games.

There have been two 3-2 games played this series, and the Wild scored 11 times in the first three contests. Do not count this team out with players like Marcus Johansson, Freddy Gaudreau, and Ryan Hartman.

Minnesota may even get to (-105) or (-110) on the moneyline. It is not likely, but possible.

Filip Gustavsson has been good all season. The expectation is to see the Wild’s best effort on Friday night.

Wild: -0.5 Goals Third Period (+150) • BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.1 Units

Minnesota and Dallas may come into the third period tied on Friday night. If home-ice advantage is going to help at any time, it’s now.

The first-period wager of the same name is (+180) and normally is more ideal. However, this tilt expects to be one where a third-period push is needed.

This is where Minnesota forces a Game 7 in the final 20 minutes.

Stars vs Wild Game 5 Preview

The Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild are tied in their best-of-seven series at two games apiece after Dallas won a tightly-contested Game 4 by the score of 3-2. With such two evenly-matched teams, no one should be surprised by this.

Read on for more postseason plays in our Stars vs Wild Game 5 best bets.

Stars vs Wild Game 5 Odds

NHL odds used for these best bets are current as of Monday, April 24, 2023, at 8 a.m. ET, and were found at BetMGM Sportsbook.

  • Moneyline: Stars (-150) • Wild (+125)
  • Puck Line: Stars -1.5 (+170) • Wild +1.5 (-210)
  • Total Goals Scored: Over 5.5 (+105) • Under 5.5 (-125)

Stars vs Wild Game 5 Prediction

Stars 3, Wild 2

These two teams continue to play close games.

Tyler Seguin has been excellent stepping in for Joe Pavelski, scoring goals like 2011 and 2013-level Seguin, and Jake Oettinger stole Game 4 from Minnesota. With home-ice advantage and a special teams advantage, Dallas has a leg up in this series.

Minnesota needs to stay out of the penalty box in order to win, and Filip Gustavsson must be their best player. It would be nice if Kirill Kaprizov and the Wild stepped up offensively, but Oettinger and Dallas will be just a little bit better in Game 5.

Stars vs Wild Game 5 Best Bets

Stars Win in Regulation (+105) • BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.25 Units

Pivotal Game 5s often determine a playoff series, but some might argue that in this particular matchup, it was always going to be Game 4.

In the past couple of years, the Wild have found themselves up in a series heading into a Game 4, only to lose that game and subsequently, the series. So, you can see why Minnesota losing on Sunday evening was deflating, and it’s likely history repeats itself here.

At basically even money, Dallas winning in regulation is our NHL bet of the day.

Most Goals Scored In Second Period (+170) • BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.1 Units

In Games 1, 2, and 3, the second period has featured the most goals scored.

Minnesota and Dallas have shown they like to feel each other out early on, with the first period in this series featuring very little goal-scoring. They usually then get things going in the second period before settling down again in the third.

The chances something similar occurs in Game 5 are moderate, which makes a tiny wager like this worth a look.

Stars vs Wild Game 4 Preview

Game 3 saw Dean Evason turn to Filip Gustavsson, and put simply, Minnesota just played better. Not only did the Wild hold the Stars to just 24 shots, but they did well converting their own chances.

Minnesota scored five goals on 25 shots en route to a 5-1 win.

Let’s take a look at Stars vs Wild Game 4 bets and what may be in store for Sunday night.

Stars vs Wild Game 4 Odds

[game data here for TGD to input]

NHL odds used for these best bets are current as of Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 9 a.m. ET and were found at BetMGM Sportsbook.

  • Moneyline: Wild (-120) • Stars (+100)
  • Puck Line: Wild -1.5 (+220) • Stars +1.5 (-275)
  • Total Goals Scored: Over 5.5 (+100) • Under 5.5 (-120)

Stars vs Wild Game 4 Prediction

Stars 3, Wild 2

Maybe Minnesota has this figured out, but what if it happens again? For those who remember the past two postseasons, the Wild looked great initially. Then, it all fell apart.

Again, it is hard to trust a coach who already gambled on Marc-André Fleury once this series.

Dallas only generated 24 shots on Gustavsson in Game 3. We can expect that number to go up in Game 4.

Minnesota won the special teams battle and held Dallas off the board on two chances. Can they do that two games in a row? Smart money says no.

Stars vs Wild Game 4 Best Bets

Under 1.5 First-Period Goals (-135) • BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.25 Unit

The start time of this game is significant as neither team has had a 5:30 p.m. CT start this season. Our thought process is that hockey players are creatures of habit. They have a routine and do not like change, especially in the playoffs.

Also, the last game in Minnesota featured just one first-period goal. Game 1 was the same, and arguably, Game 2 felt like an outlier with three goals in the opening period. Run with the Under as our NHL bet of the day.

Stars First to Score (-110) • BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.25 Unit

The NHL Playoffs are more about betting small and modestly, and following patterns can often be a sound strategy. Minnesota came out better in Games 1 and 3. Dallas rebounded in Game 2 and could early in Game 4.

Again, the Stars were held to under 25 scoring chances on Friday night. Expect more of a push early from the Stars and potentially the first goal.

Stars vs Wild Game 3 Preview

The scene shifts to Minnesota as the Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild battle on Friday night. With the series tied at one, Minnesota expects to get back some reinforcements.

Can the Wild keep the game more at even strength and to their pace? Let’s take a look at the Stars vs Wild bets.

Stars vs Wild Game 3 Odds

NHL odds used for these best bets are current as of Thursday, April 20, at 9 a.m. ET and were found at BetMGM Sportsbook.

  • Moneyline: Stars (-115) • Wild (-105)
  • Puck Line: Stars -1.5 (+220) • Wild +1.5 (-275)
  • Total Goals Scored: Over 5.5 (EVEN) • Under 5.5 (-120)

Stars vs Wild Game 3 Prediction

Dallas 4, Minnesota 3

This pivotal Game 3 could go a long way in determining the series. Dean Evason platooned his goaltenders all year, but that can backfire in the playoffs.

It is fully expected that Filip Gustavsson will start for Minnesota. Jake Oettinger played error-free over the final period as Dallas easily coasted to a Game 2 win.

Game 3 could get chaotic, especially early. That feeds into Dallas’ hands.

Minnesota must control the pace, but the feeling is Dallas knows how to speed things up. The Stars should be able to create enough opportunities and steal a game in Minnesota.

Stars vs Wild Game 3 Best Bets

Over 5.5 Goals (+100) • BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.25 Unit

Our NHL bet of the day involves taking a shot at the Over of 5.5 goals. Dallas and Minnesota combined for 10 goals in Game 2 on Wednesday night, and that included six goals during the second period alone.

Minnesota is expecting the return of offensive-minded players Joel Eriksson Ek and John Klingberg.

Add in the increasing scoring from Roope Hintz, Jason Robertson, and Tyler Seguin/Jason Benn, and you have the recipe for a volatile punch of offense. None of that helps Minnesota’s penalty kill, which has few answers for the Dallas power play.

Six goals or more combined is likely.

Dallas Wins in 60 Minutes (+135) • BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.25 Units

Taking a cue with this NHL best bet involves having a bit of faith in the momentum of the series. Evason lost the flow of play by starting Marc-Andre Fleury in Game 2, which may cost him Game 3, as well. Pete DeBoer has the pulse of his team, and Dallas should convert its chances on Friday night.

That is the difference between the two teams.

Dallas knows playoff hockey, while Minnesota still thinks it can play its regular-season game. That is why picking the Stars in Game 3 this way is a profitable venture.

Stars vs Wild Game 2 Preview

The Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild series erupted on Monday night in a game that featured a little bit of everything: injuries, timely scoring, and an unexpected hero during a second overtime.

Can Dallas even the series, or will Minnesota go up two games to none? The stage is set for some intriguing Stars vs Wild Game 2 bets.

Stars vs Wild Game 2 Odds

NHL odds used for these best bets are current as of Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at 8 a.m. ET, and were found at BetMGM Sportsbook.

  • Moneyline: Stars (-155) • Wild (+125)
  • Puck Line: Stars -1.5 (+210) • Wild +1.5 (-170)
  • Total Goals Scored: Over 5.5 (+105) • Under 5.5 (-125)

Stars vs Wild Game 2 Prediction

Dallas 3, Minnesota 2

This series comes down to breaks, and Minnesota got several in Game 1.

Joe Pavelski took a massive hit in the overtime loss, and Mathew Dumba did not get a five-minute major (much debate there). Pavelski is now questionable for the rest of the series.

There was also the bounce off the boards that left Ryan Hartman wide-open to score the game-winner. That is playoff hockey.

Dallas dominated the second half of Game 1 as they accumulated two chances for everyone from Minnesota. If that happens again in Game 2, the Stars will wear down the Wild.

Filip Gustavsson made 51 saves in Game 1 but had a half-dozen near hiccups. If Gustavsson can’t clean things up, Dallas should find enough holes to win.

Stars vs Wild Game 2 Best Bets

Stars Win in Regulation (+105) • BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.25 Units

These Western Conference series scare the “you know what” out of us. Expecting razor-thin contests will be the norm. See Dallas missing several golden scoring opportunities late in the third period on Monday night.

Expect Dallas to come out and play even faster as getting sucked into the physicality keeps the game close.

Hit counters can be spotty at home, but there were a combined 92 hits in this game. I’m expecting that total to be considerably less and the Stars to win tonight.

Dallas will be motivated to play with pace and avoid penalties, making this our NHL bet of the day.

Stars Win First Period (+150) • BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.25 Units

For the bet above to hit, the Stars must lead after the opening period. And I believe they’ll do just that.

The Stars will come out firing now that they are down 1-0 in the series. Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz started to play better as the series opener went on and I’m anticipating one or both of them to have big games on Wednesday night.

Peter DeBoer and the Dallas staff watched the tape, so they will see where to attack Gustavsson around the goal crease. Dallas knows they cannot play from behind again, so expect them to get off to a fast start.

Stars vs Wild Game 1 Preview

The Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild face off in Game 1 of their best-of-seven series tonight.

Dallas has the home-ice advantage behind one of the best goaltenders in Jake Oettinger and a top-five power-play unit. Minnesota comes in with a healthy Kirill Kaprizov and a hope this year will be different.

Below are my Game 1 best bets and prediction for Stars vs Wild.

Stars vs Wild Game 1 Odds

NHL odds used for these best bets are current as of April 17, 2023, at 8 a.m. ET, and were found at BetMGM Sportsbook.

  • Moneyline: Stars (-140) • Wild (+115)
  • Puck Line: Stars -1.5 (+190) • Wild +1.5 (-250)
  • Total Goals Scored: Over 5.5 (+100) • Under 5.5 (-120)

Stars vs Wild Game 1 Prediction

Stars 3, Wild 2

The last two games ended up 4-1 in favor of Dallas. One was on the road, and one was at home, with the latest meeting taking place two months ago.

Minnesota has more firepower with Marcus Johansson and Gustav Nyquist.

Dallas can be a stone wall at home, especially with Jake Oettinger. In addition, their special teams is one of the best five in the league. Those two differences are enough to push the Stars in Game 1.

Stars vs Wild Game 1 Best Bets

Stars Moneyline (-140) • BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.5 Units

Early on in these series, it helps to jump into the water carefully.

The rush of Game 1 is something else, but upsets do happen. Now, there is a chance Dallas could easily win, but there’s an equal chance this may be very close.

This figures to be a physical battle full of ebbs and flows. However, with the skill on the ice, expect a lot of action as Dallas edges Minnesota.

Under 5.5 Goals (-120) • BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.5 Units

Simply, the last two meetings looked more like Dallas Stars hockey, which generates many chances but keeps the score lower. Minnesota can produce goals, but playing in Dallas may be a tall order to see three goals or more. This figures to be closer than the past two games.

Both teams combining for five goals or fewer is a little risky, but old-time coaches believe this is a 3-2 league anyway.

Stars vs Wild Series Preview

The NHL’s second season begins as the first round of the NHL Playoffs gets underway on Monday night. The Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild open their best-of-seven series in Dallas at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Stars vs Wild series prop bets should be quite interesting, so let’s dive in.

Stars vs Wild Series Odds

To Win Series: Stars (-140) • Wild (+115)

Dallas vs Minnesota sets up to be one of the more contentious series of the first round. Both teams feature top-scoring talent (Jason Robertson and Kirill Kaprizov), and Dallas possesses a slight goaltending edge with Jake Oettinger.

It will be interesting to see how Dean Evason juggles his goaltenders. Does Filip Gustavsson start Game 1?

In any case, this will be a back-and-forth series. It should also be entertaining. The Wild have had some pretty memorable playoff series the past couple years, and Dallas won’t be short on theatrics, either.

NHL betting lines used for these best bets are current as of April 16, 2023, at 2 p.m. ET and were found at BetMGM Sportsbook.

Stars vs Wild Series Prediction

Stars Win Series 4-3

NHL Playoffs series often come down to special teams and goaltending. While Minnesota has improved with Filip Gustavsson in net, Dallas possesses Jake Oettinger and the fifth-ranked power-play in the NHL (25%).

Minnesota’s penalty kill was more than respectable at 82.03%, but their last two postseasons were an unmitigated disaster.

Few teams have a player like Joe Pavelski on their roster. Pavelski’s experience and special teams prowess loom large in a series like this.

Dallas’ scoring coupled with their home-ice advantage will allow them to prevail in this hard-fought battle.

Stars vs Wild Series Best Bets

Stars Win Series 4-3 (+425) • BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.25 Units

NHL bets for a series result always require a bit of patience and fortitude, but the chances this series goes the distance are relatively high.

Dallas and Minnesota both have a track record of engaging in long series. Dallas went seven before falling to Calgary last season, and Minnesota was seconds from going seven last year before losing to St. Louis.

Betting modestly works well in this case. Risking more than 0.25 units is like fool’s gold.

Minnesota at six games comes in at +550, which is an interesting option for a hedge bet. However, Dallas has a few more intangibles to push them over the top.

Series Goes Seven Games (+200) • BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.25 Units

Again, choosing six or seven games for this clash is fine. Both come in at the same +200 odds, so it really comes down to whether or not you believe Minnesota will force this series back to Dallas for a deciding Game 7.

Filip Gustavsson performed excellently at home in his one appearance versus Dallas. If Evason does not panic, this series is likely to go the distance.
