Hurricanes vs Rangers Predictions For Game 7 | Puck Line, Over/Under, & Parlay Bets For Stanley Cup Playoffs

Last Updated: Jun 1, 2022

The Carolina Hurricanes like playing at home. The New York Rangers love playing at home too. On Monday night, Game 7 comes to us from PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.

New York did what it had to do. The Rangers held serve in Game 6 behind two first-period goals. The Mika Zibanejad power-play goal almost feels like a given at this point. That is four straight contests now.

The Hurricanes had their chances but could not solve Igor Shesterkin at Madison Square Garden again. Shesterkin stopped 38 shots in all and had two assists as well. Carolina lost the special teams battle again — this time by two.

Carolina is now 0-6 on the road in these NHL Playoffs. They lost the puck line once again. It feels like they have gone to the well again since they are 7-0 at home.

Does Carolina finish off the script and the series, or does New York throw in a plot twist? Check out our predictions below to find out.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 7 Prediction

The Hurricanes shot quite a bit, possessed the puck a good deal, but could not convert those chances enough. New York managed a mere 17 shots on goal.

The difference this time was that they scored once on Igor Shesterkin. Shesterkin was terrific, especially in the first two periods when he faced 19 high-danger chances at even strength.

The Carolina Hurricanes had an expected goals advantage of 4.09 to 2.00 in Game 6. That should have translated into a victory. However, it did not because Carolina cannot put pucks in the net or keep them out when playing on the road.

Carolina has been the better team, but Antti Raanta cannot yield two goals in the first period as he did on Saturday night. Speculation may grow a bit for Frederik Andersen. The keyword is may.

Carolina carries advantages on balance and depth, but other players not named Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis need to step up. Maybe the home cooking and the smoked barbecue will help Monday night.

The Hurricanes are playing with fire but again control their destiny. Can they win and advance to face the Tampa Bay Lightning?

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 7 Pick

Hurricanes 4, Rangers 1

At this point, this was the expected outcome.

The problem: Does this game look like Game 1 or Game 5? That is a great question. Again, Carolina’s special teams have been as hit and miss as their home and road record. When does it come back to haunt them?

Game 6 did go a bit off the rails as New York scored five goals in all. Carolina will want to control the game better.

The first goal may win this again. After Game 1, the team that has scored first has won five consecutive times. If Carolina scores early Monday, that deja vu feeling happens one more time.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 7 Best Bets

Hurricanes -1.5 Puck Line (+175)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

The Hurricanes do not believe Shesterkin is in their head because they have scored three or more goals twice in this series in Carolina.

Carolina had 22 high-danger chances to New York’s nine on Saturday. They could quickly build a two-goal lead if they come close to that at home on Monday. Once that happens, the puck line almost feels like a certainty.

Game 7 figures to be much tenser but yield the same result.

With the Moneyline around -150, taking the plunge on the moneyline Monday is worth the higher risk.

UNDER 5.5 Total Goals (-135)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

The over finally hit outright on Saturday night. It was bound to happen once, and the Rangers delivered with five goals by themselves. Expecting that to occur on Monday night, in a Game 7, is not likely.

At this point, the two teams will play how they are. Carolina must be more disciplined at home and kill penalties better. They were only 3 of 5 on Saturday. That cannot happen Monday, and likely it will not. This makes the difference too.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 7 Best Parlay

Hurricanes-Rangers Same Game Parlay (+320)

  • Hurricanes Moneyline (-150)
  • Under 5.5 Goals (-135)

WAGER: 0.25 Units

The script could flip, so I say take another fractional unit hedge at the Rangers moneyline and the Under. Why? That parlay pays at +300. Sometimes a hedge can pay off, especially if one feels adamant about the under so much.

The numbers are intriguing, but that +193 number on the Carolina side may move closer to game time. If this parlay moves past +200, pull the trigger.

Previous: Game 6 Hurricanes-Rangers Prediction

The Carolina Hurricanes like playing at home. They dominated the New York Rangers from the opening puck drop. Carolina outshot New York by a margin of two to one then proceeded to win Game 5 on Thursday night by a score of 3-1.

Instead of panicking when the game was tied at 1, Carolina just kept playing its game. At even strength, they were a much better team than they showed in New York for Games 3 and 4.

The Hurricanes got an early goal from Vincent Trocheck short-handed. Then, Teuvo Teravainen sniped what proved to be the game-winner on the man advantage. In the third period, Andrei Svechnikov lit the lamp to cement the final margin of victory.

Carolina is now 7-0 at home in the NHL Playoffs. They won the special teams battle (2-1) and the puckline once again. On the ominous side, they are 0-5 on the road.

Now, does New York follow the pattern to force a Game 7? Check out our predictions below to find out.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 6 Odds

  • Moneyline: Hurricanes (-110) / Rangers (-110)
  • Puck Line: Hurricanes +1.5 (-280) / Rangers -1.5 (+230)
  • Over/Under: Over 5.5 (+125) / Under 5.5 (-145)Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 6 Prediction

The Hurricanes did not shoot quite at the volume of Game 3 again but it was more than enough. New York managed a mere 17 shots on goal. The difference is this time, was that they scored three times on Igor Shesterkin. Shesterkin was good, but Carolina’s top players were just a little better.

The New York Rangers’ lone highlight was Mika Zibanejad scoring a power-play goal. Other than that and a few moments in the third period, Game 5 felt like Game 2. Now, the expectation is that inevitable Game 6 flip.

Carolina is the better team but the last line change clearly has had an impact in this series or it’s the barbecue. Whatever it is, Carolina just does not execute the same way at home as on the road. That is the reality of this postseason.

Carolina carries advantages on balance and depth but New York just plays their style so much better at home. It’s a night and day difference.

The Hurricanes played like a team wanting to end this series in six games on Wednesday night but can they pull that off?

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 6 Pick

Rangers 3, Hurricanes 1

At this juncture, this series feels like it is predestined to go seven games.

The dilemma is how the goals break down, etc. It becomes a problem at this state trying to figure that out. Expecting a quality start from Igor Shesterkin is a given.

There is that crazy notion this game could go off the rails. However, it won’t. New York will play its patented style, get a few breaks, and find a way. Scoring again will be at a premium.

Once the Hurricanes got the lead in Game 5, it was over. If the Rangers do in Game 6, there likely will be a Game 7.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 6 Best Bets

Rangers -1.5 Puck Line (+230)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

The Rangers looked so lifeless through vast parts of Game 5 that they should have been blown out of Carolina. They were not because of their goaltending. Almost expect an equal and opposite reaction err display in Game 6.

Carolina will keep having the better chances at even strength but New York’s execution at home is just better and so is their chance creation.

Game 6 expects to see New York take the lead and likely extend it. Carolina will get closer at some point. Then, New York likely salts it away.

With the Moneyline this close, that amplifies the puck line to go for it on Saturday night.

UNDER 5.5 Total Goals (-145)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

The first five games have hit the under on most books. Some had Game 4 as a push (New York won 4-1). However, the key may be to shop around and see if one can bet the Under at 5,0 or even 4.5 goals perhaps.

At this point, they are what they are. There is no sense in changing things now. It has just been a low-scoring series with one team getting to three goals while the other does not.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 6 Best Parlay

Hurricanes-Rangers Same Game Parlay (+320)

  • Rangers Moneyline (-110)
  • Under 5 Goals (+115)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

The script taught us a bit of a painful lesson which is why after the first two goals in Game 5, honestly I bet the Live Under because it featured a better return. Call it adapting or just admitting we were wrong.

Sure, this game could be the one that goes a little crazy but more than likely, it will not. The numbers are in one’s favor and that +320 number may move closer to game time. Get on it as soon as possible.

Previously: Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 5 Predictions

The New York Rangers added to the road woes of the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night by going up 2-0 in the first stanza. They never looked back.

Instead of getting complacent, New York scored twice more to keep the momentum going. The Rangers defeated the Hurricanes 4-1 to even their best-of-seven series at two games apiece.

The Rangers got early goals from Adam Fox and Frank Vatrano. Igor Shesterkin did not have to be outstanding but was clutch when he had to be.

Carolina is now 0-5 on the road in the NHL Playoffs. They have lost the special teams battle every time and have lost on the puck line now in four of those contests. On the bright side, they are 6-0 at home this postseason.

Now, does Carolina continue to follow the script in Raleigh? Check out our predictions below to find out.

All NHL gameday odds are courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook and current as of Wednesday, May 25 at 10 a.m. ET.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 5 Odds

  • Moneyline: Hurricanes (-150) / Rangers (+125)
  • Puck Line: Hurricanes -1.5 (+190) / Rangers +1.5 (-230)
  • Over/Under: Over 5.5 (+115) / Under 5.5 (-135)

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 5 Prediction

The Hurricanes did not shoot quite at the volume of Game 3. New York’s goaltender only had to stop 30 of 31 shots on Tuesday night. Chances were a little harder to come by — especially the higher-danger ones (11 compared to 17).

New York managed 28 shots on goal, which was almost similar to Game 3’s output. The difference is this time, they scored four times on Antti Raanta. Arguably, it was the first time this series where Raanta played a subpar game to a point.

The New York Rangers again made Carolina pay on the penalty kill with the Fox power-play goal. Carolina again had issues with their special teams as New York had the better chances while outscoring them 1-0.

Carolina may be the better team, but Gerard Gallant and the Rangers are now in this series. The Hurricanes and Rod Brind’Amour must get their matchups in place for Game 5.

Carolina’s balance and depth should be able to find a few more holes at home. Expect their speed to be a bit more on display and a few chances may just find their way into the back of the net.

There were some unlucky moments in Game 4 but Carolina deserved the fate they received. Now, the pressure is squarely on them to return the favor in Game 5.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 5 Pick

Hurricanes 4, Rangers 2

This game could go a hair differently than the first four games but it is hard to deviate from the overall path.

The problem is still trying to figure out goal distribution, etc. For example, Game 4 pushed (unless one got in very early with the Under at 5.5 goals) because Andrew Copp scored a bit unexpectedly. That is a concern in reverse for Game 5.

There is that weird sense where this game reverts back a bit to what we saw in Games 1 and 2 again (more leaning on the second). No one would be surprised if Shesterkin even looks a little more human.

The idea is that the home team scores first, add to the lead, and stays out ahead. It makes too much sense to roll with this “pattern" of sorts.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 5 Best Bets

Hurricanes -1.5 Puck Line (+190)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

The Hurricanes were still achieving good possession numbers and generating 11 high-danger scoring chances on Tuesday night. However, they managed again just one goal on 31 shots.

Carolina still is the better of the two teams at even strength but their special teams’ advantage again evaporated at Madison Square Garden.

Game 5 expects to see Carolina be the team to get out to the fast start and likely hold on a bit late.

With the moneyline still hovering around even money (+100 in regulation, too), it is worth stepping up to take a shot at the puck line with a fractional-unit bet.

OVER 5.5 Total Goals (+115)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

The first four games have seen just 14 goals scored combined. At least Game 4 saw five goals scored and room for one or two more. This may be the time to at least take a look at the plus-money Over. If movement knocks this back to even or worse, do not bite here.

Now, the flip back was a little unexpected but could prove to be a bit of a gift for Game 5. Carolina’s urgency may be enough to get to that magical six or more goals level for the first time this series.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 5 Best Parlay

Hurricanes-Rangers Same Game Parlay (+258)

  • Hurricanes Moneyline (-150)
  • Over 5.5 Goals (+115)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

The idea of carrying plus units also reminds us to still keep things as simple as possible. Another two-legged parlay is solid as after consecutive hits. Game 4 was a push on the second leg.

Taking a risk that this may be the highest-scoring game of this best-of-seven is a calculated decision. Let’s roll and see what happens next.

Previously: Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 4 Predictions

The New York Rangers turned the tables on the Carolina Hurricanes Sunday afternoon and played their brand of “win ugly" hockey.

Instead of falling behind, New York scored twice to take the momentum and then held on for a 3-1 win that gave the Rangers some hope as the series is now two games to one. Game 4 takes place on Tuesday night in Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers got early goals from Mika Zibanejad on the man advantage and Chris Kreider. Igor Shesterkin was brilliant in goal as he stopped over 40 shots in the matinee.

Carolina is now 0-4 on the road in the NHL Playoffs. They have played a few different styles on the way but have lost on the puck line every single time.

Now, can Carolina finally buck the trend on Tuesday night in New York? Check out our predictions below to find out.

All NHL gameday odds are courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook and current as of Monday, May 23 at 10 a.m. ET.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 4 Odds

  • Moneyline: Hurricanes (-105) / Rangers (-115)
  • Puck Line: Hurricanes +1.5 (-270) / Rangers -1.5 (+220)
  • Over/Under: Over 5.5 (-125) / Under 5.5 (+105)

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 4 Prediction

The Hurricanes kept shooting the puck and Shesterkin just kept stopping them. Shesterkin, after a questionable goal from Nino Niederreiter, simply shut the door the rest of the way. The Russian goalie stopped 43 of 44 shots.

New York managed 32 shots on goal themselves as a few more lanes opened on Sunday. The Rangers have to play the same way and worry less about what Carolina can do. New York needs to keep focused on what it can accomplish.

The New York Rangers missed a couple of golden opportunities to salt away the game sooner but Carolina simply missed more. They converted zero of their 17 high-danger scoring chances created on Sunday. New York did twice on just six such chances.

Carolina may be the better team, but Gerard Gallant and the Rangers in the last line change. New York can make the adjustments necessary to continue to play its game.

Carolina’s balance and depth ran into a brick wall in Boston in the last round. Game 3 saw them run into Shesterkin. Needless to say, things did not end well for them.

There were a number of bad and crazy bounces on Sunday afternoon. Expect a few less on Tuesday night as both teams try to utilize their speed and the Rangers try to implement their opportunistic attacks.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 4 Pick

Rangers 3, Hurricanes 1

This game could be sort of a carbon copy of Game 3, with Antti Raanta and Shesterkin playing well.

The problem is trying to gauge game flow. Carolina should have more shots and chances with New York still being more selective.

The keys will again be the man advantage and that timely offense factor. New York used both in Game 3 to set the tone and take the game a bit away from Carolina. That is their winning formula. Until Carolina can even take a sustainable lead on the road, it works.

The belief is that New York can keep frustrating Carolina and allow Shesterkin to get further into their heads. The Rangers should be able to even the series on Tuesday night in a raucous Madison Square Garden.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 4 Best Bets

Rangers Moneyline (-115)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

The Hurricanes were in the zone on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, they could not convert any one of those 17 high-danger scoring chances into a goal. New York bent but did not break as they often do on home ice.

Despite Carolina being in charge for long stretches of Game 3, the song remained the same on the road as New York did the honors this time winning at home to take their first game of the series.

With the moneyline still hovering around even money (+130 in regulation too), it is again worth a half-unit wager.

UNDER 5 Total Goals (+105)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

The first three games of this series have combined for a grand total of nine goals. Now, the sites have become wise as the under has finally slid to 5.0 goals as expected — maybe a game or two too late.

Now, the flip has created another near-even-money scenario at (+105). Take the under especially as Carolina and New York have both been guilty of goal-scoring issues in this series.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 4 Best Parlay

Hurricanes-Rangers Same Game Parlay (+283)

  • Rangers Moneyline (-115)
  • Under 5 Goals (+105)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

rangers-hurricanes-parlay-5-23-22

The rationale is simply that goals are at an extreme premium in this series. Sure, one or both teams can break out. Until they can show it, bet what works.

Given the way both goaltenders played on Sunday, the under looks good again on Tuesday. With a parlay rising closer to +300, this pick might just work once more.

PREVIOUSLY: Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 3 Prediction

The Carolina Hurricanes descended into a defensive rabbit hole and took the New York Rangers right with them.

They did not fall behind. Instead, Carolina just kept plugging away and plugging up all lanes. Everything became clogged. The result was 42 combined shots from the two teams. Despite quite a few power-play opportunities, goals were going to be at a premium by design.

That worked for the Hurricanes as Brendan Smith (former Ranger) scored a short-handed goal late in the second period. This goal stood up as Sebastian Aho sealed the game with an empty-net goal. With that, Carolina won Game 2 by a score of 2-0 to go up 2-0 in the series.

Carolina is now 6-0 at home in the NHL Playoffs. They have played a few different styles on the way but have utilized home-ice advantage quite well.

Now, can Carolina continue to frustrate the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Sunday afternoon? Check out our predictions below to find out.

All NHL gameday odds are courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook and current as of Saturday, May 21 at 2 p.m. ET.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 3 Odds

  • Moneyline: Hurricanes (-120) / Rangers (+100)
  • Puck Line: Hurricanes -1.5 (+210) / Rangers +1.5 (-260)
  • Over/Under: Over 5.5 (+110) / Under 5.5 (-130)

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 3 Prediction

The Hurricanes kept the Rangers close and then taught the Rangers a lesson from a decade ago. They blocked shots, blocked shots, then altered shots.

New York managed 21 shots on goal but 24 were blocked and numerous others were altered. It was a game full of frustration as Carolina shut them down on Friday night.

The New York Rangers missed a couple of golden opportunities to at least force overtime, while Carolina converted one of their chances. That is what Game 2 became in a nutshell.

Carolina is the better team but now the series shifts to New York where Gerard Gallant and the Rangers have the last line change. New York can make the adjustments necessary to counter what Rod Brind’amour has implemented.

Carolina’s balance and depth ran into a brick wall in Boston last round. Does that occur in New York as well? One intriguing variable may just be the weather. Consider that Game 3 starts at 3:30 in the afternoon on Sunday. Temperatures are expected to be above 90 degrees outside.

With already questionable ice conditions at Madison Square Garden, expect even worse ice on Sunday afternoon. That figures to play havoc on the best-laid plans of both teams.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 3 Pick

Rangers 3, Hurricanes 2

This game features to be close late yet again, with Antti Raanta and Igor Shesterkin playing well. The problem is trying to gauge game flow. Can New York push the pace enough to make this a series? Based on the last round, the Rangers should be able to exploit a few matchups.

The keys will be special teams and transitional offense. Carolina cashed in with a short-handed tally off a transitional opportunity. New York did not have enough of them. They need the bounces to go their way. The Rangers know how to play at Madison Square Garden better than anyone.

New York must get more pucks on Raanta or this will be a short series. The belief is that they can draw a few more penalties and get their power play to start to work.

The Rangers should be able to finally win a game on Sunday afternoon.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 3 Best Bets

Rangers Moneyline (+100)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

The Hurricanes may get sucked into the slop that will be the Madison Square Garden ice on Sunday. Much like the fact that Carolina is favored on the road (0-3 in the playoffs so far). Yes, Carolina may be a better team but one has to win on the road.

Despite Carolina being mostly in control of Game 2, the New York Rangers were a goal away from forcing overtime and stealing Game 2. It would not take much for this series to swing the Rangers’ way.

With the moneyline lurking around even money, it is worth a half-unit wager.

Under 5.5 Goals (-130)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

The first two games of this series have combined for a grand total of five goals. While Game 3 should see more goals scored, the question is do we see a drop to five goals here?

Now, the fact that this number has pivoted to (-140) makes our scenario possible. Take the under especially as Carolina has had trouble scoring goals in this series.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 3 Best Parlay

Rangers-Hurricanes Parlay (+254)

  • Rangers Moneyline (+100)
  • Under 5.5 Goals (-130)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

The rationale is to expect a few more goals on Sunday afternoon, but it still may not be enough to connect on the Over at 5.5 goals.

It may be a bit of a struggle for both teams to score goals at times on Sunday afternoon. However, a shutout does not appear likely. With a parlay around +250, this pick has a reasonable chance of succeeding without breaking the bankroll.

PREVIOUSLY: Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 2 Prediction

The Carolina Hurricanes got away with one against the New York Rangers in Game 1.

They fell behind early and were essentially asleep for the first 40 minutes. Carolina nearly went down 2-0 in the third period, but Kaapo Kakko missed a wide-open net with about six minutes to play.

That seemed to spark the Hurricanes as Sebastian Aho scored the equalizer with less than three minutes remaining. Then in overtime, Ian Cole got a lucky bounce, err tip, from Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren to give Carolina a 1-0 series lead.

Carolina is now 5-0 at home in these playoffs and will try to make that 6-0 on Friday night.

Now, can Carolina continue to speed things up in Game 2 as they did late in Game 1? Check out our predictions below to find out.

All NHL gameday odds are courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook and current as of Thursday, May 19 at 11 a.m. ET.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 2 Odds

  • Moneyline: Hurricanes (-175) / Rangers (+150)
  • Puck Line: Hurricanes -1.5 (+145) / Rangers +1.5 (-170)
  • Over/Under: Over 5.5 (-110) / Under 5.5 (-110)

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 2 Prediction

The Hurricanes allowed the Rangers to keep things close in Game 1. Maybe, too close. In the third period, however, Carolina showed some fight. They had nearly two expected goals during the final 23+ minutes of Game 1 to New York’s 0.73.

The two reasons why Game 1 did not end in regulation were that Carolina took too long to score and New York missed a couple of golden opportunities to salt the game away.

Carolina is the better team but cannot let New York dictate play. There were too many times in Game 1 where New York slowed things down by design. The Hurricanes are one of those teams that can easily fire 35+ shots at home. What we saw towards the end of Game 1 should lead into Game 2.

Carolina’s balance figures to come into prominence more as the series progress, which could force the Rangers to play from behind, unlike they did in Game 1. Igor Shesterkin will likely see more pucks come his way as well as the pressure mounts. This is why taking Carolina again is a wise move.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 2 Pick

Hurricanes 4, Rangers 2

This game features to be close again late, with Antti Raanta providing steady goaltending as he has at home in these playoffs. There should be more scoring too in this tilt, however, New York’s goaltending figures to keep them in it for a while.

The key will be special teams. Carolina knows it has to step up and draw some more penalties. They started to do that later in Game 1 but just did not get a few calls. Maybe, Carolina does in Game 2.

Carolina had nine of the final 12 high-danger scoring chances in Game 1. Expect that to continue in Game 2.

The Hurricanes should be able to extend their series lead to 2-0 as the scene then shifts to New York For Games 3 and 4.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 2 Best Bets

Hurricanes -1.5 Puck Line (+145)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

The Hurricanes figure to be less sloppy in Game 2 compared to Game 1. Even their vaunted possession game felt way off. There was rust or almost fatigue that plagued Carolina for the first 40 minutes, however, whatever Rod Brind’amour said after the second intermission lit a fire under them.

Scoring chances were 17-6 in the third period and overtime. That was more like what most expected (maybe not that extreme).

With the puck line still at decent plus-money, it is worth a half-unit wager.

Over 5.5 Goals (-105)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

Few expected Game 1 to play out the way it did. Maybe, this is a considerable risk but let’s try this again one more time for Game 2.

Now, the fact that this number backed down to (-110) is a positive. Take the Over and run with it in what should be an even more raucous atmosphere on Friday night.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 2 Best Parlay

Rangers-Hurricanes Parlay (+207)

  • Hurricanes Moneyline (-175)
  • Over 5.5 Goals (-105)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 2 Parlay

The rationale is to expect a few more goals on Friday night given that Carolina did wake up during the final stages of Game 1.

It may be a bit of a struggle but keep in mind, that the Rangers are more than capable of scoring a few goals themselves. With this parlay trending to a +200 payday, those are solid numbers. If there is a time for the over to hit, it may just be Game 2.

PREVIOUSLY: Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 1 Prediction

The Carolina Hurricanes managed to turn the tables on the Boston Bruins in Round 1 behind some great play at home. In their first-round series, Carolina scored three or more goals in all four home contests. Both teams held serve gamely as the series went the distance. In the end, Carolina edged out Boston 3-2 to advance to the second round.

Carolina is again led by Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, and Teuvo Teravainen. The Hurricanes’ big three along with their depth form the nucleus of a team that finished with the best record in the Metropolitan Division.

Also, having Antti Raanta in net has been good for the Hurricanes. Their special teams have been a key in getting them this far as well.

The New York Rangers come into the second round after just squeaking by the Pittsburgh Penguins. They were down three games to one in their first-round series but rallied back to win three straight contests. Behind Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider, and a clutch overtime goal by Artemi Panarin, New York got by a Pittsburgh team who had the Rangers on the brink several times.

How is Aho? Is the center 100%? That’s one question.

The other is can Carolina slow down New York’s special teams which can be lethal at times? Here are our predictions for the first game of the NHL Playoffs between the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers.

All NHL gameday odds are courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook and current as of Tuesday, May 17 at 11 a.m. ET.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 1 Odds

  • Moneyline: Hurricanes (-170) / Rangers (+145)
  • Puck Line: Hurricanes -1.5 (+150) / Rangers +1.5 (-175)
  • Over/Under: Over 5.5 (-120) / Under 5.5 (+100)

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 1 Prediction

The Carolina Hurricanes took three out of the four meetings with the New York Rangers this season. This included a late-season affair that all but sealed the Metropolitan Division. One important trend to note is this: Every Carolina win against New York featured the Over connecting.

The one game New York won was by a shutout by Igor Shesterkin in late March.

Carolina must use its depth and win the drawn penalty battle. It worked for the most part against Boston and last line change was a big advantage.

The Hurricanes have more balanced firepower and enough 5-on-5 defense to hold New York at arm’s distance. Carolina can dominate large stretches of gameplay, which makes them an attractive Game 1 pick.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 1 Pick

Hurricanes 4, Rangers 2

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 1 Best Bets

Hurricanes -1.5 Puck Line (+150)

WAGER: 1 Unit

The first three games of the last round saw Carolina cover every step of the way. It was only Game 7 and a late David Pastrnak goal that kept the trend from going a perfect 4-for-4. Carolina has more than enough offense to run away from New York in this one. In their three wins, the Hurricanes tallied 14 goals while yielding just eight. That works out to a two-goal margin per contest.

With the puck line still at decent plus-money, it is worth a full-unit wager.

Over 5.5 Goals (-120)

WAGER: 1 Unit

This is a mild surprise given how long it took bookies to catch on in Round 1 against the Boston Bruins. The Over hit like clockwork for the most part until Game 7. Carolina is 9-1 in their last 10 and New York is 8-1-1 during the same span when it comes to the Over.

Now, the fact that the number is -120 is not a concern for it to tip up to six. Take the Over and run with it in what should be an electric atmosphere in Carolina Wednesday night.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 1 Best Parlay

Rangers-Hurricanes Parlay (+191)

  • Hurricanes Moneyline (-170)
  • Over 5.5 Goals (-120)

WAGER: 1 Unit

The idea is to start simple here for Game 1 and take the moneyline and the Over. This again worked well in the first-round series and considering both teams hit their Overs often in the last round.

If it is not broken, why try to change things? The payout is a little less than +200 but still a potential moneymaker nonetheless Wednesday night.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Series Prediction

The Carolina Hurricanes made their series against Boston a bit more difficult than it should have. Boston’s perseverance along with a goaltending switch likely prolonged their playoff lives.

Carolina needed to face a team like Boston early. The series will only get more and more physical from here.

New York can make this a series if it gets the goaltending from Shesterkin we saw in Game 1 against Pittsburgh. Shesterkin was not very good in most of Round 1 but made the saves he had to late in the series.

He will be facing a much more sustained attack from Carolina. This will be his toughest test as Round 2 goes on. The expectation is that Carolina wears down the Rangers gradually.

Series to Go Six Games (+200)

WAGER: 1 Unit

This tends to be the safest bet in most of the second-round matchups. Colorado is the only series that does not have six games at the lowest odds. That is because Colorado is expected to win in five games or six at the most.

Carolina can steal at least one of the games at Madison Square Garden. Their ability to play sludge hockey when needed serves them well.

Carolina does not have the goaltending edge but again has it on offense, defense, and for the most part, special teams. One or more of those aspects would have to massively break down for them to lose this series.

Hurricanes -1.5 Games (+110)

WAGER: 0.5 Units

This is a simple and academic bet. If one believes Carolina will win the series in six games then bet the series spread. It’s that easy. The number is still slightly in positive territory.

Taking a small wager here can add to one’s potential payout. Expanding this to a unit would not break one’s bankroll, either. The 0.5 unit bet is to set up elsewhere.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 2 Odds

  • Moneyline: Hurricanes (-175) / Rangers (+150)
  • Puck Line: Hurricanes -1.5 (+145) / Rangers +1.5 (-170)
  • Over/Under: Over 5.5 (-110) / Under 5.5 (-110)Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 2 Prediction

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 1 Odds
