Chargers vs Falcons Predictions & Odds

Last Updated: Nov 3, 2022

Fresh off their bye week, Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers will fly out to Atlanta to take on the Falcons. Atlanta is fresh off a thrilling victory in overtime over the Carolina Panthers. The win wasn’t pretty as they allowed 478 yards of offense and gave up a huge play to DJ Moore after being up 21-13 in the fourth quarter.

The Chargers have been fairly underwhelming this year, as a team that was expected to be one of the best in the NFL. They’re 4-3 in the AFC West, behind the first-place Chiefs. Meanwhile, the Falcons are sitting in first place with a 4-4 record thanks to a disappointing season thus far from Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.

Chargers vs Falcons Odds

As just three-point favorites, sportsbooks are expecting this to be a fairly tight matchup. If you were to see this spread before the season started, you’d probably not believe it. Atlanta was looking to be one of the worst teams in the NFL while the Chargers could be potential playoff or even Super Bowl contenders.

Chargers vs Falcons Implied Totals

Chargers 26.5, Falcons 23.5

Bookmakers are projecting this matchup to be one of the highest-scoring games in Week 9. Outside of the Seahawks and the Cardinals game, this is the highest implied total on the slate as of Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Chargers vs Falcons Prediction

Chargers 30, Falcons 20

After having a week to rest with their bye week, I’m banking on the Chargers getting back on track in a big way. Herbert needs to be fully unleashed and the Chargers need to prove to everyone why they were projected to be one of the best teams in the NFL.

Wide receiver Mike Williams has been leading the team in receiving this year as veteran Keenan Allen has been on the sideline with a hamstring injury. That won’t be the case against the Falcons, as Williams is expected to be out for several weeks with a high ankle sprain.

As for Allen, he played in Week 7 against the Seahawks after sitting since Week 1 against the Raiders.

Allen played in just 32% of the offensive snaps in Week 7, but with the bye week and plenty of time to recover, he should be ready to go against Atlanta. Austin Ekeler has been an elite running back in both the rushing and receiving game and should have a huge game against Atlanta.

As for the Falcons, they’ve struggled to find their offensive identity after losing Cordarrelle Patterson. Rookie Drake London has shown flashes and tight end Kyle Pitts is fantastic when Atlanta uses him. It’s been tough to predict who will produce in this offense, and I’m not sure the Falcons know what they want to do with Pitts.

Chargers vs Falcons Bet Tips

I’m expecting this matchup to be fairly close at first, but for the Chargers to ultimately take over comfortably. Herbert will have a chance to really air it out against this Falcons’ defense which gives up plenty of production to opposing quarterbacks.

Here are some Vikings vs Commanders betting trends to consider before placing your bets:

  • Both the Falcons and Chargers have covered the spread in four of their last five games.
  • Herbert is fifth in the NFL in passing yards with 2,009 despite already having his bye week.
  • The total has gone Over in four of the last five games for the Chargers.

Chargers vs Falcons Best Bets

Chargers -6.5 (+144) at FanDuel Sportsbook

The Chargers are due to get back on track, and this week is the perfect week to do just that. Atlanta might be one of the “worst" first-place teams in the NFL at the moment. I’m expecting the Chargers to win this one by at least a touchdown, potentially even more.

You can get positive odds on this one here, making it a nice addition to some parlays for a higher payout.

Over 49.5 Points (-110) at FanDuel

I’m expecting the Falcons to be able to put some points up, despite the Chargers’ defense. Their defense has not quite lived up to expectations, and opposing quarterbacks have done good - not great - against them.

With a high-powered Chargers offense playing indoors, I’m banking on the Over hitting in this one, despite being one of the higher totals on the slate.
