Week 9 NFL Mailbag: Marcus Mosher talks the best NFC East team, why the NFL Trade Deadline is usually lame, and the top 2021 NFL Draft prospect at linebacker.
Week 9 NFL Mailbag
Why is the NFL trade deadline so quiet compared to other sports?
In sports like basketball and baseball, one player can be the difference between making the playoffs or not. It can even be the difference in winning the championship or not.
In the NFL, we have 53-man rosters, and one single player (outside of a quarterback) rarely makes a big difference between a win or loss.

Couple that with concerns about the upcoming salary cap and it’s not hard to see why we had a quiet trade deadline this year. That’s why we didn’t see intriguing names like Houston Texans WR Will Fuller moved Tuesday.
Who is the best team in the NFC East, and who will win?
At full strength, the Dallas Cowboys are the best team in the NFC East. They have an elite quarterback (Dak Prescott), a dominating offensive line and enough defensive playmakers to get stops.
Unfortunately, all of their top players are injured, so they are out of the equation. Entering Week 9, the Eagles are the best team despite some big flaws. However, my confidence in them is draining by the game and they are on the verge of completely falling apart with a few more losses.
What team has no chance of contending for a Super Bowl anytime soon?
I think the Giants might be the furtherst team away in the NFL. They aren’t likely to earn the No. 1 pick. They seem to be in limbo at quarterback with Daniel Jones. The defense lacks pass-rushers and playmakers in the secondary and the offensive line might be the worst in the NFL.
Worse yet, they could have significant turnover in the front office this offseason and that could mean a change in coaching staff once again just after hiring Joe Judge this offseason.
This team is just a long ways away from ever being able to compete in a loaded NFC.
Why didn’t the Cowboys try to trade RB Ezekiel Elliott?
The Cowboys would have loved for someone to take on Ezekiel Elliott’s contract, but that’s the exact problem.
Teams around the NFL no longer view him as an elite running back. Combine that with his massive contract and guaranteed money left on his deal and it’s not hard to see why no one is really interested in the All-Pro running back.

Who is the best linebacker in the 2021 NFL Draft?
@NotToBeTrite
That would be Micah Parsons of Penn State. He has decided to opt out of the 2020 college season and prepare for the NFL Draft.
Once viewed as a lock top-10 pick, Parsons may have some mystery to him. How will the NFL value an off-the-ball linebacker who hasn’t played since the 2019 season?
He should test as an elite athlete at the NFL Combine, but his positional value could knock him down a few spots. Still, Parsons is an outstanding prospect and is a dark horse to land inside the top five picks of next year’s draft.
