Texans Jaguars Players to Watch
Jaguars QB Jake Luton is expected to start his first NFL game on Sunday versus Houston with normal starter Gardner Minshew sidelined with a thumb injury.
A sixth-round pick in April’s NFL Draft from Oregon State, Luton has yet to make an appearance in a pro game nor has he attempted a pass. However, he has received the starter reps in practice and will get the starting nod over veteran Mike Glennon.
With the Jaguars looking ahead and seeing what they have for the future, it makes sense for the inexperienced rookie to be out there from an organizational point of view.
Rumor has it that Luton has a bigger arm than Minshew which could trigger Jacksonville’s play-callers to throw the ball downfield more in his debut, per longtime Jags beat writer Joel Oehser.
Posing a 42:11 TD/INT ratio in 20 collegiate starts, Jaguars Head Coach Doug Marrone believes the rookie has shown enough at training camp to move the offense.
Texans QB Deshaun Watson is the key to Houston picking up their second victory of 2020.
While he has thrown for fewer than 234 yards in all five career outings against the Jaguars leading into the 2020 season, those Jacksonville defenses were much more competent and in 2018, the best in the NFL.
That is not the case this season. The Jaguars’ defense is allowing the fifth-most passing yards per game (281.9).
And although Watson has thrown for five total touchdowns against Jacksonville entering 2020, he’s thrown for at least one score in only 3-of-5 games while tossing at least two touchdowns in one of those meetings. However, in the two matchups in which Watson blanked as a passer in the touchdown department, he managed to score one in each game on the ground.
In Watson’s last meeting against the Jaguars back in Week 5, he posted a career-best (when facing Jacksonville), 359 passing yards with three touchdowns and a season-high 10.3 yards per attempt.
For you prop betters out there, Watson has rushed for at least 25 rushing yards in three of his past four games against the Jaguars.
In six career starts against the Jaguars including 2020, Watson has won 5-of-6 including five straight. He lost his first career game against Jacksonville and never looked back.
Texans Jaguars Weather Report
The weather report for TIAA Bank Field calls for an overcast afternoon with an 11% chance of precipitation at the time of kickoff.

Texans Jaguars Betting Guide
BEST BET: Texans -7 (-110)
In their last 10 meetings, Houston has covered the spread six times, including in four of their past five matchups.
Houston is also 5-1 against the spread in their last five meetings at the Jaguars.
The Jaguars have lost their past five games by at least eight points and were defeated by 16 points in their last matchup with Houston back in Week 5.

CONSIDER: Under 55.5 (-110)
While this matchup features a pair of teams with horrendous defenses, I am favoring the under on Sunday.
Houston’s defense is ranked 30th in points against (31.0) and 30th in total yards surrendered (417.6). Jacksonville’s defense is ranked 31st in points allowed (31.4) and 31st in total yards (424.4).
The offense on Jacksonville’s end is what I am worried about as we already know what the Deshaun Watson-led Texas offense is capable of. They can pop at any time.
With Garner Minshew under center, Jacksonville’s offense was only scoring the 26th most points per game (26.2) and the 24th most total yards (343.0).
Now, the unknown Jake Luton will give it a go. I expect the Jaguars to lean on the run behind James Robinson in order to keep the ball out of Watson’s hands as well as in an attempt to open up passing lanes for Luton, which does not bode well for the over.
The under is 5-0 in the last five meetings between these two clubs.
CONSIDER/PASS: Jaguars +7 (-110)
While the underdog is 11-5 against the spread in the last 16 games between the Texans and Jaguars, I am completely out on Jacksonville in this one.
The jaguars are 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall and 0-4 in their last four games as a dog. They are also 1-4 ATS in their last five games against Houston.
I would have given Jacksonville a chance with Garnder Minshew under center, but not with a sixth-round rookie making his first meaningful snaps as a pro on Sunday.
