Super Bowl 55 MVP Bets & Super Bowl MVP Sleeper Picks

Like everything else, quarterbacks have dominated Super Bowl MVPs by position since the award’s inception. Here is how it shakes out:

  • Quarterback: 30
  • Running Back: 7
  • Wide Receiver: 7
  • Linebacker: 4
  • Defensive End: 2
  • Safety: 2
  • Cornerback: 1
  • Defensive Tackle: 1
  • Kick Returner: 1

However, Pauly and Anthony are also targeting other non-quarterbacks, including the NFL’s best player at his position; a talented offensive sidekick; and a scorching-hot defender who’s made a huge impact in the postseason.

Super Bowl MVP Best Bets

1. Patrick Mahomes, QB, Chiefs (-110)

The man who won the Super Bowl MVP just last season is, of course, the favorite to win the award again. If the Chiefs take home their second straight Super Bowl, it will likely be due to the play of their star quarterback. Mahomes won the MVP last year going 26-of-42 for 286 yards and two TDs in Super Bowl 54, and as long as the Chiefs go back-to-back, their QB should end up lifting the Pete Rozelle Trophy as well.

Plus, the QB position is by far the likeliest to win the MVP. Through 54 Super Bowls, a QB has won the award 30 times. A QB winning the Super Bowl MVP is so much the obvious choice that you can take the “Position of MVP" prop, select “QB," and get both Mahomes and Brady together at -300 odds, though you’re sacrificing a bit of payout there.

2. Tom Brady, QB, Buccaneers (+200)

Speaking of TB12, he is amazingly the “value" play here. Brady already has an NFL-record four Super Bowl MVPs from his time with the Patriots, and 2-to-1 odds are outstanding, especially if you think the Buccaneers are going to win the big game.

If the Bucs win, the chances of anyone else winning the MVP award is honestly slim to none, based on the rhetoric alone — Brady goes to Tampa and leads them to another Super Bowl win. It’s Brady or bust when it comes to a Tampa Bay player winning the MVP award.

3. Travis Kelce, TE, Chiefs (+1000)

This one is interesting as it would be a first. No tight end has ever won the Super Bowl MVP. But Kelce isn’t your typical tight end. He had 105 receptions for 1,416 yards and 11 touchdowns in the regular season. In two playoff games this season, he has 21 grabs for 227 yards and three TDs.

If Kelce can put up a game like Super Bowl 53 MVP Julian Edelman (10 catches, 141 yards), then he’s got a shot with these 10-to-1 odds.

Sleeper: Mecole Hardman, WR, Chiefs (+5000)

All the way back in Super Bowl 31, Desmond Howard put on a show. The kick/punter returner for Green Bay not only had a 99-yard kick return TD but also racked up 244 all-purpose yards. It’s that kind of impact that Hardman would have to have in order to win the Super Bowl MVP.

He’s the only true longshot that I think can win the award due to his starting role in the Chiefs’ offense as well as his kick/punt return ability on the team’s special-teams unit.

Imagine dropping $10 to win $500? That’s wouldn’t be a bad way to close out Super Bowl Sunday.
