Raiders-Broncos Picks overview: This one of the dud games on the Week 17 slate featuring two teams with nothing to play for. Sure, there is the longtime AFC West rivalry aspect, but other than that and draft positioning, the Raiders and Broncos will look to end their lost seasons on a positive note. The Raiders are 1-5 in their past six games, losers of three straight while the Broncos are 1-4 in their past five games, losers of two consecutive games in their own right.

Raiders-Broncos Key Injuries

Raiders

The Raiders are banged up on defense, which is no surprise as they have been gashed in the second half of the year. While S Lamarcus Joyner is dealing with a thigh injury, DE Clelin Ferrell is dealing with a shoulder injury that has sidelined him for each of the past three games.

If both Joyner and Ferrell are ruled out for Week 17, the Raiders will be missing two significant parts to their defense.

Broncos

The Broncos are not dealing with any new injuries of significance.

Raiders-Broncos Players to Watch

Denver’s secondary is beaten up, which is prime news for the Raiders’ passing attack, more so Nelson Agholor. Despite drafting Henry Ruggs and Bryan Edwards in the 2020 NFL Draft, the most productive wideout on the Raiders has been Agholor, a free agent defect from the Eagles who like Ruggs, is also a former first-round pick.

While Agholor has flashed in Philly, he has broken out in year-one in Las Vegas. Although Agholor has only corralled 47-of-78 targets, he has posted career highs in receiving yards (839), yards per catch (17.9), yards per game (55.9), and touchdowns (8). His eight touchdowns match his current career-best in that category set back in 2017.

In two of his past three games, Agholor has managed 100+ receiving yards and a touchdown against two tough secondaries, burning the Colts and Dolphins.

He will look to end the year strong with another pop outing challenging a Denver defense surrendering the 12th fewest passing yards per game (229.9) in 2020.

While Agholor was held to a 1/8/0 line on four targets back in Week 10’s meeting with Denver, his primary cover corner was Bryce Callahan, who is sidelined with a foot injury.

Broncos RB Melvin Gordon has played well in the second half of the year. Since Week 11, Gordon has finished with 91 total yards or a touchdown in four of six games.

While the Raiders held Gordon to 46 total yards without a score back in Week 10, the longtime AFC West back has a positive track record against them dating back to his tenure with the Chargers.

Leading up to his first meeting with the Raiders as a member of the Broncos, Gordon managed seven straight games with either 100+ yards or a touchdown against them with the Chargers, finding the end zone eight times in nine total career games.

The Raiders are yielding the 11th most rushing yards per game (126.1) this season.

Raiders-Broncos Picks & Bet Tips

BEST BET: Over 51 (-115)

This game features a pair of defense that have played awful football in the second half of the year. The Broncos are allowing the eighth-most points per game (27.6) while the Raiders are surrendering the fourth-most PPG (29.8).

The Raiders have given up 26+ points in six straight games, including two games in the 30s and two in the 40s.

The Broncos have allowed 30+ points in six of their past 10 games.

The Over is 2-1 in the Broncos’ past three games, failing to hit last week.

The Over is 6-2 in the Raiders’ past eight games, hitting in each of their past four.

The Under is 8-0 in the past eight meetings between these two clubs.

CONSIDER: Raiders (-140)

Both of these teams are on losing streaks entering Week 17. The Raiders are 1-5 in their past six games, losers of three straight. The Broncos are 1-4 in their past five games, losers of two straight.

The winner of this game will be the team that can run the ball without giving it away. There should be plenty of points scored in this presumed shoot out and the team with the ball in their hands last will likely be victorious.

The Broncos are the No. 1 team in giveaways (32) while the Raiders are seventh with 22.

When it comes to Drew Lock versus Derek Carr, I would give the edge to the latter. What does not help Carr, however, is the fact that his defense is amongst the league’s worst. Remember, this is a Raiders club that opened the year 6-3 before their late collapse.

The Raiders are 3-1 straight up in their past four games against the Broncos, winning earlier this season.

CONSIDER: Raiders -2.5 (-110)

The Raiders have covered the spread in eight of their past 10 meetings with the Broncos, covering in six straight.

The Raiders are 5-4 against the spread in their past nine games, covering last week following four straight outings failing to do so.

The Broncos are 3-3 ATS in their past six games, failing to cover in two straight.

Anthony Cervino is 61-50-2 on his NFL Best Bets in 2020.
