Panthers-Chiefs Players to Watch

Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey has missed the past six games since Week 2 with an ankle injury. However, barring a setback, the elite running back is poised to make his return to the field in Sunday’s exploitable matchup against the Chiefs.

While Kansas City’s defense is one of the best in the league, the Chiefs have a glaring weakness: defending the run. The Chiefs are allowing the fourth-most rushing yards thus far in 2020 at a 142.8 yards per game rate.

Kansas City has also yielded 37 receptions for 323 yards to enemy backs in the passing game, but have yet to allow a receiving score to the position.

If McCaffrey can get going against the Chiefs’ front seven and maximize his versatility in the passing game, the Panthers are a physical enough team to give Kansas City some fits. However, if McCaffrey is slow in his first game back, the Panthers won’t have much of a chance.

Panthers Chiefs Bet Tips: Tyreek Hill looks set to be latest top wideout to gash Carolina's weak secondary.
Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill should explode versus Panthers secondary. (USA TODAY Sports)

Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill is in line for a monster game.

Although the Panthers secondary has played better than expected in defending the pass — Carolina is ranked 15th in passing yards allowed per game (232.5) — they have been burnt by No. 1 wide receivers in 2020.

Carolina has given up north of 100 receiving yards to Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, Mike Evans, and Keenan Allen this season. All but Jones had also accompanied their big yardage outings with a touchdown. The Panthers were only able to hold DeAndre Hopkins to fewer than 100-yards of all the top-flight wideouts they have faced.

Hill is next in line to slay Carolina’s young secondary. While he has yet to surpass 99 receiving yards in a single game this season, Hill has scored at least one touchdown in 7-of-8 games played, totaling eight on the year.

Panthers-Chiefs Weather Report

The weather report for Arrowhead stadium calls for an overcast afternoon at the time of kickoff with a 1% chance of precipitation.

The temperature is forecast at 68 degrees Fahrenheit with 20 mph winds blowing South.

Panthers-Chiefs Betting Guide

BEST BET: Chiefs -10.5 (-110)

Out of Kansas City’s seven wins, five of them have come by more than 10.5 points including each of their past two blowout victories over the Broncos and Jets.

While Carolina plays their games close — they have only lost one game by more than 10.5 points — the peak Chiefs are the most dominant team in the NFL and normally manhandles inferior foes.

The Chiefs are 4-0-1 against the spread facing teams with a losing record this season.

CONSIDER: Over 52.5 (-110)

The Chiefs have the second-ranked offense in points per game (31.6) and fourth in total yards (410.5).

The Panthers defense is allowing the 13th-most PPG (24.1) and the 15th most total yards (357.4).

We know Kansas City can score at will, but my only issue is the Carolina offense. The Panthers are scoring the 25th most PPG (22.4) and the 19th most total yards (221).

Meanwhile, the Chiefs are yielding the third-fewest PPG (19.0) and the 10th fewest total yards (344.0).

With Chrisitan McCaffrey returning, the Panthers should have an easier time moving the football down the field on the ground while opening up the play-action pass for Teddy Bridgewater and his stud receivers.

It will be close, but i like the total to go over on Sunday.

PASS: Panthers (+400)

Don’t get cute here because of the Carolina (+400). It will cash big if it hits, but the odds of hitting are grim. This game is not only a total mismatch, but it should also be another dominant outing for Kansas City.

Fade the Moneyline on both ends.
