Giants vs Bears Predictions Week 17 | NFL Pick of the Day

Last Updated: Dec 30, 2021

The New York Giants will head west to take on the Chicago Bears in a battle between two teams with virtually no playoff aspirations.

The Giants (4-11) got off to a tremendously slow start to the NFL season, but regained some confidence in the middle of the season. They’ve since lost all of it, losing four in a row and five of their last six. This team is in full rebuild mode behind quarterback Daniel Jones, and at this point, are looking forward to the NFL Draft.

The Bears (5-10) are in a similar spot. Like the Giants, they are looking to rebuild around their own young quarterback Justin Fields (for now).

Neither of these teams had any sort of expectations coming into the season, so this outcome makes sense. This game will not be a game you want to watch, but let’s find some value within the odds in this NFL pick of the day series.

All NFL gameday odds are courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook and current as of 1 p.m. ET on Thursday, December 30.

Giants vs Bears Prediction

As I have mentioned a few times already, neither of these teams are very good. What’s interesting about this matchup, though, is that both of these teams grade out very similarly overall, potentially setting up a slugfest from wire to wire.

The Giants will turn to either Jake Fromm or Mike Glennon in Week 17 with Daniel Jones on IR. The Giants are relatively healthy at the moment, but right tackle Nate Solder (undisclosed) and cornerback Adoree’ Jackson (COVID-19) are currently listed as questionable.

Justin Fields (ankle) is questionable for Week 17 action, too. Backup quarterback Andy Dalton has already been ruled out with hand and groin injuries, so if Fields is unable to go, things could get dicey for Chicago.

Standout receiver Darnell Mooney is also currently listed as questionable on the injury report with an ankle injury.

This should be an ugly game, but it could be an all-out war given the close nature of these two teams from a power rankings lens.

Let’s take a look at my final score prediction for the Giants vs Bears in Week 17.

Prediction: Bears 23, Giants 19

Giants vs Bears Best Bets

Best Bet: Giants +7 (-135) at Caesars

Wager: 1 Unit

With the line currently standing at NYG +6 (Caesars), I highly recommend buying a full point to get to a full touchdown spread. I still like the Giants at +6 , but as more of a half-unit play than a one-unit play.

The Giants are averaging just a hair under 12 points per game across their last five games, but they have played a few tough opponents. The Bears have allowed 26.6 points per game over their last five, leading me to believe that the Giants, no matter who they start at quarterback, can score enough points to cover.

Best Bet: Over 37 Total Points (-110) at Caesars

Wager: 0.75 Units

This is going to be a small play just because of the downside. The Bears and Giants are both bad football teams. We know this. Looking intrinsically at why they are bottom-feeding teams is important, though.

The Bears and Giants currently rank 18th and 19th respectively in team defense DVOA. These marks are better than most of the teams in their tier, but the defenses combined are still atrocious. This bodes well for the Over even if both teams have proven incapable of scoring at times.

When you pit two lower-tier teams against one another, sometimes crazy things happen. Back the Over on a minuscule number.
