Los Angeles Angels OF Mike Trout was placed on the 10-day injured list and will miss 6-to-8 weeks with a calf strain, the Angels announced.
Mike Trout Injured List Stay Expected To Cost Him 6-8 Weeks
One of the early betting favorites to win the 2021 AL MVP Award, Trout has started the 2021 season with a .333 batting average, 8 home runs, 18 RBI and 23 runs scored with an .466 on-base percentage and a .624 slugging percentage in 146 plate appearances.
Trout exited the Halos’ Monday night game in the first inning with the injury.
Mike Trout Injury: Fantasy Baseball Tips
While this Mike Trout calf strain will rest on his fantasy baseball managers’ injured list, the in-house replacements on the Angels’ roster aren’t too enticing. Taylor Ward (.626 OPS this year) and Jose Rojas (.573) don’t deserve a pickup … anywhere.
Does this mean we’ll see top Angels prospect Jo Adell get a call-up from Triple-A Salt Lake and, in turn, a meaningful workload?
The 22-year-old is batting a disappointing .191 but has 4 HR in just 47 at-bats. No contact, a lot of power as he continues to develop. Regardless, if he is summoned to the majors, fantasy baseball players in 15-team mixed leagues or deeper could throw a cautious but reasonably strong bid on his services, depending on roster/standings needs. His prospect pedigree sustains the intrigue around him.
One possible side effect of this: Perhaps Shohei Ohtani will make enough appearances as a late-innings replacement in the outfield to eventually qualify at the position later this season, freeing up his fantasy baseball managers to use him at a fantasy baseball lineup spot other than Utility.
Mike Trout Injury: Angels Betting Tips
As expected, 2021 AL MVP odds have been pulled down from most sportsbooks. Trout’s absence probably will strengthen Ohtani’s odds, as well, which lowers Ohtani bettors’ return on investment.
This probably also will bump Toronto Blue Jays 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and others upward in the odds rankings.
As the Angels stand at 18-22, six games behind the first-place Oakland Athletics, they’re already a long shot to meet any lofty 2021 Angels futures bets. Angels To Win AL West (+900) will probably sink to a longer shot in the coming days.
This does, however, strengthen the case to bet on the A’s to win the AL West (+120), as they’re still only the second favorite behind the Houston Astros (-120) on BetMGM.
