May 21 MLB K Prop Bet Tips
Trevor Bauer, Los Angeles Dodgers @ San Francisco Giants (9:45 p.m. ET)
Over 7.5 strikeouts (-152)
Wager: 1 unit
Bauer has been his usual dominant self with the Dodgers this year, racking up an NL-high 77 strikeouts in 57 1/3 innings with a 2.20 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP. Six of his nine starts have been on the road, where he has a 2.89 ERA, a 0.88 WHIP, and a 49:12 K/BB ratio over 37 1/3 frames.
While the Giants’ offense has been more prolific than usual this year, they also have the second-most strikeouts in the National League. They play in one of the better pitching parks in baseball as well, which bodes well for Bauer in this matchup too.
Bauer has gone over 7.5 Ks in each of his last two outings and in six of his nine starts this year. He’s also consistently pitched deep into games, averaging over 6 1/3 innings per start. In what should be a relatively low-scoring affair, he’ll likely need to go six or seven frames in this game as well, giving him lots of opportunities to take advantage of San Francisco’s whiff-heavy lineup.
Alex Wood, San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (9:45 p.m. ET)
Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+105)
Wager: 1 unit
While Wood isn’t the strikeout artist that Bauer is, he’s been dominant in his own right, going 5-0 with a 1.75 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP in six starts this year. He’s also held his own in the strikeout department with 35 Ks in 36 innings, averaging just under six whiffs per start. Wood has been even better at home, limiting opponents to a .134 batting average and notching 23 strikeouts in 20 innings.
While Los Angeles features one of the more fearsome lineups in baseball, it does strike out a fair amount. Dodgers hitters have the seventh-most strikeouts in the National League this year, so they can be pitched to. They also have MLB’s ninth-highest strikeout rate versus left-handed pitching (25.8 percent), which is a point in Wood’s favor.
The biggest key for Wood will be surviving multiple trips through the order. He’s logged at least six innings and six strikeouts in four of his last five starts, with three such outings coming at home. If he can avoid early mistakes, he should be able to hang around long enough to hit the over here.
