Lions Panthers Players to Watch

Lions RB Adrian Peterson is expected to draw the start with stud breakout rookie, D’Andre Swift, ruled out with a concussion.

This is not unchartered territory for the ageless veteran, however. Peterson already had five games with 11+ carries this season and has gone for 99 yards or a touchdown in three of them.

Peterson gets a terrific matchup this week facing the Panthers, whose defense has been sliced and diced by enemy backs all season long.

Carolina’s defense is surrendering the fourth-most rushing yards (1,088) and the fourth most touchdowns (10) to opposing rushers on the ground while allowing the most receptions (66), the sixth most receiving yards (445), and the fifth most touchdowns (2) to backs deployed as receivers.

Panthers QB P.J. Walker is expected to draw the start if Teddy Bridgewater is ruled out with his knee injury.

However, while reports suggest that Bridgewater is not expected to play, the latest news on the gimped-up signal-caller is that the Panthers have not given up hope and the Lions are preparing as if he will go.

If Walker gets the nod, it will be his first NFL start. Walker was a stud in the XFL, throwing for 1,338 yards with 15 touchdowns and four interceptions and a 104.4 quarterback rating in five games. He also rushed for 99 yards and another touchdown as well.

In two appearances in the NFL with the Panthers this season, Walker has completed 3-of-8 passes for 15 yards.

The Lions are yielding the ninth-most passing yards per game (258.4) this season and the 13th most touchdowns (17).

Lions Panthers Weather Report

The weather at Bank of America Stadium calls for an overcast afternoon at the time of kickoff with a 0% chance of precipitation.

The temperature is forecast at 59 degrees Fahrenheit with 2 mph winds blowing East-Southeast.

Lions Panthers Bet Tips

BEST BET: Lions (-130)

This game should be close. Both teams are banged up, missing some marquee players on both sides.

However, the biggest losses tend to be on the Panthers’ side. While Christian McCaffrey is already ruled out, they will also likely be without Russell Okung, who is doubtful to play with a calfst injury on their offensive line and Teddy Bridgewater is a true game time call with a knee.

Even if Bridgewater is active, he will not be at 100% health. (RB Mike Davis should be busy once again.)

Meanwhile, the Lions will be down two studs on offense. Both Kenny Golladay and D’Andre Swift are ruled out with their respective hip and head injuries. Wideout Danny Amendola is also sidelined as well. Like Golladay, Dola is out with a hip.

The Lions are the hotter team with playoff aspirations in mind. They are 3-2 in their past five-game and beat Washington last week following a two game slide.

The Panthers have not won in five games.

The Lions are 2-3 versus Carolina in their past five meetings and 2-2 in their past four.

CONSIDER: Over 46.5 (-110)

The Over is 3-2 in the past five meetings between Carolina and Detroit.

The Over is 6-3 in the Lions’ nine games played this season and 4-2 in their past six games.

The Under was 4-1 in the Panthers’ first five games, but the Over is 3-1 in their past four, including in two straight.

CONSIDER: Lions -2 (-110)

If you want slightly better odds than the (-130) Moneyline and think the Lions will cover the two points, then this is the way to go.

The Lions are 3-2 against the spread in their past five games after opening the season 1-3 in their first four.

The Panthers are 2-3 ATS in their past five games overall.

The Lions are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings with Carolina and 3-2 in their past five.
