New York Jets (2-13) at New England Patriots (6-9)

The New York Jets visit the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Here’s our complete guide to Jets-Patriots Bet Tips. Odds and lines for Jets-Patriots picks are from PointsBet, current as of Thursday at 1 p.m. ET.

Jets-Patriots Bet Tips

Odds & Betting Lines for Jets-Patriots Picks

  • Against The Spread: Patriots -3 (-115)/Jets +3 (-105)
  • Moneyline: Patriots (-171)/Jets (+145)
  • Total: 39.5 — Over 39.5 (-115)/Under 39.5 (-105)
  • Implied Team Totals: Patriots 21.25, Jets 18.25

Jets-Patriots Picks: Both the Jets and the Patriots are eliminated from playoff contention. Both of these teams will look to end deflating seasons on a positive note and pick up a win in this AFC East rivalry game. While the Jets have won each of their past two games following an 0-13 start, the Patriots have lost four of their past six games, including three straight defeats.

Jets-Patriots Key Injuries

Jets

The Jets are hurting in their backfield, which is not necessarily a bad thing. While both La’Mical Perine (illness) and Frank Gore (lung) are indefinitely ruled out, Ty Johnson is in line to handle the workload.

Johnson has looked like the best back on the Jets at times in the second half of the season -mostly in the past four games — but has not had a ton of opportunity. In the one game, he was featured, he went for 117 total yards and a touchdown on 24 touches, back in Week 13 against the Raiders.

In the only other game, this season in which Johnson saw 9+ touches, the career reserve rusher went for 55 total yards (39 receiving on 6-of-6 targets) with a touchdown back in Week 15’s win over the Rams.

Patriots

Patriots RB Damien Harris is dealing with an ankle injury that has sidelined him for each of the past two games. If the Patriots elect to rule out Harris in the meaningless season finale against the Jets, Sony Michel and James White will be the team’s primary backs, with the former managing the bulk of the early-down work.

Michel has handled 10 carries for 69+ yards in each of the past two games in which Harris has been sidelined.

Jets-Patriots Players to Watch

Jets WR Jamison Crowder had another pop game in last week’s victory over the Browns. Doing a little bit of everything, Crowder hauled in 7-of-9 targets for 92 yards and a touchdown, ran the ball once for a 14-yard gain, and threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Braxton Berrios on a gadget play.

It was the fourth time this season in which Crowder totaled 100+ yards, but it was the first time he’s accomplished that feat since Week 5.

Jets-Patriots Bet Tips and Jets-Patriots Picks: Jamison Crowder has been a lonely bright spot in otherwise abysmal New York season.

Now, Crowder will get a banged-up New England secondary that will be without Stephon Gilmore (quad) for the second straight game. Last week sans Gilmore, the Patriots were lit up by Stefon Diggs. Diggs dropped a 9-145-3 line on the Patriots’ secondary on 11 targets.

Back in November’s meeting with the Patriots, Crowder caught two balls for 26 yards and a score.

Patriots RB Sony Michel is expected to be the primary back for the Patriots. While he did not play against the Jets in November, he has had success facing them in his career.

In his career against New York, Michel has scored a touchdown in three out of four games played with five total in that period. In his last meeting with them back in October of 2019, Michel netted 34 total yards (-8 receiving) and three touchdowns on 20 touches (19 carries).

The Jets have yielded 12 total touchdowns (11 rushing) to running backs in 2020.

Jets-Patriots Picks & Bet Tips

BEST BET: Under 39.5 (-105)

This game features two of the worst teams in the NFL. While the Jets are scoring the fewest points per game (15.3) this season, the Patriots are not far behind, averaging the fifth-fewest (19.9) with Cam Newton‘s often ugly season under center.

With two horrendous offenses and a pair of suspect defenses, the Under is the wise play.

The last time a New England total has gone Over was back in Week 9 against the Jets. Since then, the Under is 7-0 in the Patriots’ past seven games.

Meanwhile, the Under is 4-1 in the Jets’ past five games, hitting in three straight.

The Under is 7-2 in the past nine meetings between these two clubs, hitting the Over earlier this season.

The Under is 5-0 in Jets’ past five games in Week 17.

CONSIDER: Jets (+145)

It is a tough pill to swallow, but the Jets enter Week 17 as the better team. Meanwhile, the Patriots have been terrible in their past three games. Not only are they winless, but they have scored fewer than 12 points in all three outings, including two games scoring fewer than nine points.

And while the Jets are 2-1 in their past three games, they have won two straight over two teams in playoff contention (Rams and Browns).

The Jets are 1-9 in their past 10 meetings with the Patriots, failing to win in nine straight. However, they took the Patriots to the wire in their last matchup earlier this season in which the Patriots won by three.

Consider: Jets +3 (-105)

While the Patriots seem like the better play, considering they have owned the Jets in the Bill Belichick era, I believe New York has a legit shot to pull out their third straight victory in the season finale.

I think the Moneyline is the smarter play because you will get better odds, but if you want to protect your wager in case this is another three-point game as it was the last time these two teams faced-off back in Week 9, then the Jets getting three would push. You would also win the bet if they won outright too.

The Jets are 2-1 against the spread in their past three meetings with the Patriots, covering in their Week 9 tilt.

The Jets are 5-2 ATS in their past seven games, covering in two straight.

The Patriots are 2-4 ATS in their past six games, failing to cover in three straight.

Anthony Cervino is 61-50-2 on his NFL Best Bets in 2020.
