January 14 NBA DFS Picks

Star Shootout (Early Games 1/14/21 NBA DFS Plays)

MKF Contest: Fantasy Challenge (Win 1.5x your entry fee if three selected players exceed goal of 156.5 combined fantasy points)

MKF Fantasy Points Scoring System

  • Point= +1 point
  • Assist= +1.5 points
  • Rebound= +1.2 points
  • Steal= +3 points
  • Block= +3 points
  • Turnover= -1 point

Players: Malcolm Brogdon, Domantas Sabonis and Joel Embiid

This diverse trio can certainly rack up fantasy scoring with their ability to stuff the stat sheet, and all three have positive factors in their favor Thursday.

Both Brogdon and Sabonis should have even more responsibility on their shoulders than usual with Victor Oladipo now off to Houston and Caris LeVert not yet eligible to suit up and play for Indiana on Thursday. Both players will also be facing a fatigued Portland team that had a track meet of a win over the Kings on Wednesday.

Brogdon is shooting an excellent 47.7 percent, including 45.3 percent from behind the arc, and he’s also averaging career highs in points (22.5), assists (7.5) and steals (1.7). He also boasts a 28.5 percent usage rate without Oladipo on the floor this season and will face a fast-paced Portland team that ranks in the bottom 10 in offensive efficiency allowed to point guards.

Sabonis boasts a 27.4 percent usage rate without Oladipo in his own right and is already averaging career highs in minutes (37.7), points (21.8), rebounds (12.5) and assists (5.8). The Blazers are also vulnerable from a positional matchup perspective, as they rank in the bottom half of the league in rebounds (10.3) and assists (4.7) surrendered to power forwards.

Finally, Embiid is facing the same Heat squad that he trampled for a 45-point, 16-rebound double-double Tuesday. While that’s a lofty bar to even come close to again, Embiid could be in for another night of little resistance down in the post, as Miami will continue without the services of Bam Adebayo due to COVID-19 protocols. In addition to his excellent production in scoring and rebounding, it’s also worth noting Embiid is averaging 1.6 blocks and a career-high 1.4 steals, upping his already massive fantasy upside.

Golden State Warriors at Denver Nuggets

MKF Contest: More Or Less (Pick 2/2 correctly to get 3x your buy-in)

MKF Fantasy Points Scoring System

  • Point= +1 point
  • Assist= +1.5 points
  • Rebound= +1.2 points
  • Steal= +3 points
  • Block= +3 points
  • Turnover= -1 point

Stephen Curry: More than 44.5 Fantasy Points

Curry’s production has been a bit more up and down than ideal thus far, especially during a current four-game stretch where he’s shot 36.5 percent and produced two sub-15-point tallies. However, the veteran sharpshooter naturally has no shortage of upside and offers strong rebounding, assist and steal numbers that help prop up his fantasy tallies even when his shot is off. Factoring in the Nuggets have allowed the highest offensive efficiency (36.2), most points (31.7), second-most assists (10.5) and second-highest shooting percentage (50.0) to ones, Curry seems in a good spot for a bounce-back effort Thursday.

Nikola Jokic: More than 52.5 Fantasy Points

Jokic has already produced several mammoth fantasy-point tallies this season, and he currently boasts career highs in minutes (35.0), points (24.3), rebounds (10.9), assists (10.5), steals (1.8) and three-point percentage (41.2). The Joker’s usage rate checks in at a mammoth 28.6 percent usage rate, and outside of sub-par production in blocks, he’s thriving across the stat sheet.

Jokic is even draining a career-best 41.2 percent of his three-point attempts, and he’ll face a Warriors team that’s playing at the second-fastest pace in the league while also giving up bottom-10 or bottom-five figures in points (23.2), rebounds (16.4), blocks (2.6) and three-point percentage (42.1) to centers. Finally, the fact Golden State is giving up an NBA-high 44.2 percent success rate from three-point range on the road certainly helps enhance Jokic’s already strong case.
