J.J. Watt Signs With Arizona Cardinals: 2021 NFL Betting & Fantasy Football Outlook

Last Updated: Jul 14, 2023

J.J. Watt Signs With Arizona 2021 Betting Odds: After being released by the Houston Texans, and a slew of cryptic tweets, the veteran defensive end lands in Arizona with the Cardinals in free agency.

J.J. Watt Signs With Arizona 2021 Outlook

Over the past few seasons, Arizona has revamped its defense. By drafting Isaiah Simmons from Clemson eighth overall in last year’s NFL Draft, and now adding Watt, who will be 32 by next season, the Cardinals are bolstering their defense quickly.

Last season, the Cardinals finished 8-8 and needed help defensively. Watt fills a need to help the team win now, but also comes with an expensive price tag.

Watt, who tweeted a picture of himself in an Arizona Cardinals shirt to announce the signing, will pair up nicely with veteran Chandler Jones on the other side of that defensive line. However, linebacker Hasson Reddick is also a free agent, and signing Watt to a contract up to $31 million could make it hard for Arizona to retain him.

J.J. Watt/Arizona Cardinals 2021 Betting Odds

Watt’s signing is already getting the betting lines moving in Las Vegas for the Cardinals to win the Super Bowl.

Before signing Watt, on PointsBet, the Cardinals were +4500 to win Super Bowl LVI. Now, they have already improved to +3000. First, they need to get past Tom Brady‘s Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Aaron Rodgers‘s Packers in the NFC.

On BetMGM, the Cardinals are +2000 to win the NFC.

Considering the uncertainty of Russell Wilson‘s future in Seattle, Matthew Stafford learning a new offense with the Rams and the question marks surrounding Jimmy Garoppolo‘s situation in San Fransisco, the NFC West could be a total crapshoot, even with Watt in Arizona.

For fantasy football purposes, adding Watt will improve the value of Arizona’s defense. While this will help them improve, adding Watt does not make them a must-draft.

If Kliff Kingsbury’s bunch could come together at the perfect time, and go all-in, the Cardinals could possibly win the division and make a run at the Super Bowl.
