Giants 2021 Schedule, Changes, and Outlook
After a promising first season under first-year head coach Joe Judge, the New York Giants stayed busy during free agency. Not only were they able to retain their star defensive end Leonard Williams, but they also went out and signed the top wide receiver in Kenny Golladay along with cornerback Adoree’ Jackson.
In addition to matchups with their NFC East opponents, the Giants have difficult road dates with four playoff teams, including both Super Bowl contestants. They also have a challenging road test against a Miami Dolphins team that won 10 games last year. Their schedule gets a little easier at home, however, with only one game coming against a playoff team from last year in the Los Angeles Rams.
Despite going 6-10, the Giants missed out on a division title by just one game last year. Judge helped build a promising foundation on the field, which set the table for higher expectations in year two.
Not only did Judge resemble the closest thing they’ve had to a CEO on the sidelines since two-time Super Bowl champion head coach Tom Coughlin was in East Rutherford, but he also brought a bright and budding assistant with him in defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. Graham oversaw a dramatic turnaround on defense, with the Giants going from one of the league’s worst units in 2019 to among the best in 2020.
On offense, all eyes will be on offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and quarterback Daniel Jones, who are both entering make-or-break years. After a disappointing season offensively last year, both will have more weapons to work with. Superstar running back Saquon Barkley will also be back after suffering a torn ACL last year, which will be a huge boost for the offense.
Giants 2021 Make Playoffs Bet: Yes Or No For New York?
New York Giants: Make Playoffs In 2021-2022 NFL Season? YES (+225)
Next season is an extremely important one for Gettleman, Jones, and Garrett. The Giants have put the right pieces around Jones to succeed in year three, while Judge has established discipline and a winning culture in the building, which the organization has lacked since the Coughlin era.
It appears that better days are ahead, and it is fair to expect New York to win more games than last year and reach the postseason for the first time since 2016.
