Dolphins Cardinals Players to Watch

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa picked up his first career win in his first career start last week against the Rams, but he didn’t have to do much to help his team to victory.

I doubt that will be the case this week against the Cardinals, a team that is more dynamic than the Rams because of the versatility and mobility of QB Kyler Murray.

In last week’s win, Tagovailoa completed a narrow 12-of-22 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown while losing a fumble in his efforts. He also attempted two rushes but went for zero yards.

This is a game in which we will see if Tagovailoa can hang, assuming the Miami defense doesn’t smother Murray as they did Jared Goff last week. If Tagovailoa falters again and the Dolphins lose, we will begin to question if he is the future of the team at quarterback.

In the 2020 NFL, you don’t get a lot of time. You either are or you aren’t.

Cardinals QB Kyler Murray flashed in his rookie 2019 campaign, but he is really coming into his own in 2020.

Not only has Murray led the Cardinals to a surprising 5-2 record, but he has also beaten upper echelon teams that include the 49ers and Seahawks.

While Murray hasnt thrown for a ton of yards, he has thrown for at least 360 yards in 2 of his past three games.

Murray has totaled at least two touchdowns in all seven games played this season. He’s also rushed for at least 29 yards in every game while scoring a touchdown on the ground in 6-of-7 outings.

Despite all of the positives that come along with Murray, he has yet to face a defense quite like the Dolphins. While the Miami defense is allowing the 20th most yard per game in 2020 (376.0), they are the No. 1 ranked defensive unit in points allowed (18.6).

If Murray is the real deal, he will lead Arizona to a win on Sunday.

Dolphins Cardinals Weather Report

State Farm Stadium is a dome, so no weather impact here.

Dolphins Cardinals Bet Tips

BEST BET: Under 48 (-110)

This game features two of the best defenses in the NFL. Miami is ranked No. 1 in points against (18.6) while the Cardinals are allowing the ninth fewest points per game (20.9).

While we know the Kyler Murray-led Cardinals offense can score — they are scoring the ninth-most PPG (29.0) — I do have concerns about what the Dolphins are with Tua Tagovailoa and without Ryan Fitzpatrick.

What’s more, the Dolphins will be without their starting running back, Myles Gaskin, as he is already ruled out with a knee injury.

That doesn’t bode well for their offense overall as if there is a handicap on Arizona’s defense, it is running at them. The Cardinals are allowing the eighth-most rushing yards per game (131.1).

If the Dolphins can’t get the running game going, Tua Tagovailoa could be exposed in his second career start as it will all fall on his shoulders.

The under is 4-0 in Arizona’s last four games as a favorite.

The under is 5-0 in Arizona’s last five games following a bye week. It is also 4-0 in Miami’s last four following a bye as well.

The under is 5-2 in Miami’s seven games played this season and 6-1 in Arizona’s seven games played as well.

CONSIDER: Cardinals -4.5 (-105)

The Cardinals and Dolphins are similar teams, but Arizona is more complete and ready to make a run now. And while I give the Dolphins the edge defensively, the Cardinals have the better quarterback and are playing at home.

Arizona is 5-2 against the spread this season.

3-of-5 of the Cardinals wins this season have come by more than 4.5 points, including two of their past three.

CONSIDER: Dolphins Moneyline (+170)

I like the Cardinals to win outright and cover the spread, but if you like Miami, I can’t blame you for laying some capital on their Moneyline at (+170).

While both of these teams mat-up well, I said earlier I give the edge to Arizona because of the quarterback and the home-field advantage.

However, while we know what Kyler Murray is, we really don’t know much about Tua Tagovailoa. For all we know, he can pop this week and lead the Dolphins to victory on the road. He will need a lot of help from his defense again but is not impossible.

I won’t kill you for betting the Dolphins Moneyline, I just won’t recommend it.
