Dak Prescott, Cowboys Agree To Deal Worth $160 Million Over 4 Years: Quarterback Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys agreed to a four-year, $160 million contract Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reports. The deal includes $126 million guaranteed, with the first three years averaging $42 million per year.

Dak Prescott, Cowboys Agree To Deal

The contract ends the standoff between Dallas and its quarterback, who was in danger of being franchise-tagged for a second consecutive season.

Their agreement to a pact gives Prescott his desire of being paid close to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes‘ average annual value.

It also stabilizes Dallas’ quarterback situation through the 2024 season. For at least this season, Dak will throw to wide receivers Amari Cooper (barring Dallas taking an out on his contract after this coming season), one of the surest route-runners in the NFL, and CeeDee Lamb, a star-level prospect who enters his second season.

Prescott and the Cowboys had until Tuesday, March 9, to come to a long-term agreement before they would’ve had to resort to a second straight season with a franchise tag, which would’ve cost the Cowboys $37.7 million.

Despite suffering a stomach-curdling, season-ending ankle fracture during Week 5 of the 2020 season, Prescott still led the NFL in passing yardage after Week 6 with 1,856 yards. In that four-plus-game season, he also tossed 9 touchdowns; completed 68% of his passes; averaged a career-best pace of 8.4 yards per attempt; and ran for 3 touchdowns.

Not to mention, he made it rain with 4,902 passing yards, 30 TDs and 11 interceptions in the 2019 season, complete with a whopping 16 completions of 40 or more yards.

All early indications say Prescott will be ready to go for Week 1, barring preseason setbacks.

Dak Prescott, Cowboys NFL Betting Outlook

This solidifies the Cowboys’ chances of putting up a strong fight for the 2021 NFC East division title. PointsBet lists Dallas (-105) as a strong favorite.

BetMGM lists the Cowboys (+1500) as the seventh-strongest bet for the 2021/2022 NFC Championship. Expect the possible ROI on a bet to shrink in the coming days, though it may reach a level that makes them a less attractive wager.

Dallas (+2500) is also tied for the 11th-shortest odds to win the 2022 Super Bowl per BetMGM.

Stay tuned for more 2021 NFL MVP player props, and other statistical props like quarterbacks who’ll lead the league in passing yards; given the Cowboys’ air-centered offense during Prescott’s healthy stretch last season, he would be a great selection.

Dak Prescott: 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Prescott ranks squarely as a top-five fantasy football quarterback, if not top-three in many circles. He boasts a great — if not elite — receiver group of Cooper, Lamb, Michael Gallup (maybe his last season in Dallas); tight ends Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz; plus running backs Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard.

Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore did not get scooped up in the flurry of NFL coaching hires. His often-creative scheme helped elevate Prescott’s statistical ceiling, and him remaining to help head coach Mike McCarthy scheme should keep Dak’s attempts column full.

Lamb probably will rank as a top-10 fantasy football receiver in dynasty leagues, as well as a solid WR2 in 2021 redraft fantasy football leagues. Cooper is a top-10 for 2021, though he’s probably a WR2 for the long term, due to his possibility that he’ll be with another team after the 2021 season.

Gallup is a candidate to be playing elsewhere after next season, too, and he’s at best a WR3 for 2021 fantasy football leagues. Will Jarwin (torn ACL) be healthy and good to go in Week 1? If he’s not, Schultz could be a solid late-round sleeper, but if Jarwin and Schultz are both active, they’ll cannibalize each other’s targets.

Elliott is a low-end RB1 in 2021 fantasy football leagues as a possible value buy; he “disappointed" with 979 rushing yards and 8 TDs in 2020 with Prescott sidelined most of the season, and assuming a healthy return, Elliott should rebound.

NFL Free Agency officially begins Tuesday, March 9, and while the Cowboys signed Dak Prescott to a contract, plenty of other 2021 NFL free agents remain. Keep track with our 2021 NFL Free Agent Rankings & Tracker.
