The 49ers’ best route to winning the NFC Championship Game will be through Christian McCaffrey. He rushed for two TDs in the Divisional Round win over Green Bay while totaling 128 yards from scrimmage, and is primed to deliver a performance that will lead to his first Super Bowl appearance.

McCaffrey has 544 scrimmage yards and six scrimmage TDs in five career playoff games.

The odds for McCaffrey to score one TD are -330, so I have to move to the next wagering target in the same category. The NFC Championship Game has an Over/Under of 51 points, so McCaffrey should get enough opportunities to take us to the virtual pay window here.

In two of his past four games, McCaffrey has found the end zone more than once. He totaled a career-best 21 TDs from scrimmage this season and will have to play a large role this week as the Lions force the 49ers to respond to their frequent offensive strikes.

I am expecting the 49ers and Lions to trade offensive punches throughout the NFC Championship Game, and once again, McCaffrey will be the focal point of the potent San Francisco attack. Tampa Bay may have set a template for the Niners to follow with their superstar running back.

Rachaad White was effective as both a runner and receiver against the Lions, even though his touches were limited. He averaged 6.1 yards per carry and 9.0 yards per reception against Detroit.

After reviewing the Lions-Buccaneers matchup, the 49ers staff will see that they can indeed exploit the Detroit defense with heavier doses of McCaffrey. A matchup-proof standout, “CMC” has gotten past the projected scrimmage yardage total in six of his past seven games, including the playoffs.
