Looking to avenge the Phillies’ first loss of the season, Aaron Nola will take the mound in a rubber-game matchup against the New York Mets. This will mark the second time around in the rotation for Nola and his previous start, he earned six strikeouts over 6.2 innings.
The prediction here is that for the first time since September 17 of last year, against the Mets, Nola will strike out seven or more hitters. In the first team games of the season, Mets hitters have been struck out 18 times. Except for Brandon Nimmo and his four base-on-balls in two games, the Mets are still looking for patience at the plate. Expect Nola to take full advantage of that.
David Peterson, SP, New York Mets (at Philadelphia Phillies): Less than 4.5 Pitching Strikeouts
In twelve innings pitched during Spring Training, David Peterson recorded three strikeouts. In 2020, despite record more wins than Jacob deGrom, Peterson struck out four or fewer hitters in eight out of his ten starts.
While the Phillies have been struck out an average of 10.4 times per game, in the small sample size we have of Peterson, strikeouts do not appear to be a focal point of his starts. The belief here is that win or lose, this will be an opportunity for the Phillies hitters to limit the strikeouts.
