April 5 MLB Bet Tips

Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels, 9:38 p.m. ET

Probable Pitchers: RHP Luis Garcia (HOU) vs. LHP Jose Quintana (LAA)

Astros (-105)

Wager: 1.05 units (win would pay 1 unit)

The Astros are absolutely rolling right now, coming off a four-game sweep, outscoring the A’s 35-9. They have a good chance to keep it going against a mediocre pitcher in Quintana, who has put up an ERA over 4.00 for four consecutive seasons. This is a pitcher who doesn’t miss bats (career 8.4% swinging-strike rate) and tries to pitch to contact. That could spell trouble against the hottest lineup in baseball.

The Astros also have some hitters who excel against lefties, such as Alex Bregman (career 173 wRC+) and Jose Altuve (career 173 wRC+). They have a team total of 4.5 and should be able to rack up some runs against Quintana. While there’s risk with an unproven young pitcher like Garcia on the mound, the Astros offense is too hot to pass up on this short line.

It’s also worth noting that the Angels are coming off a night game and have really worked their bullpen during their four-game series with the White Sox. Their starters averaged less than 5 innings per start, which put some strain on their relievers. This is especially true for closer Raisel Iglesias, who pitched in three of four games, including 1.2 innings last night.
