Cincinnati Reds Team Futures Bets: 2021 Team & Player Props

Player Props & Futures

National League Cy Young

  • Luis Castillo (+1400)
  • Sonny Gray (+3300)

Luis Castillo has been one of the best pitchers in baseball the last two seasons. He’s good at limiting home runs and inducing ground balls, which is important in the hitter-friendly confines of Great American Ballpark. He’s all but a lock for 200+ strikeouts. Advanced ERA metrics like FIP and xFIP suggest his 2020 ERA of 3.21 could have been better. He’s a good bet at +1400 to win the NL Cy Young.

Sonny Gray is also a great value bet here. It looks like former teammate Trevor Bauer had an influence on Gray’s focus on spin rate – in 2019, Gray’s spin rate on all of his pitches increased, leading to an uptick in strikeouts and a significant improvement in ERA. He will have to limit walks in 2021, but Gray has a legitimate chance to win the 2021 Cy Young, even as a long shot.

2021 NL MVP (Bet365)

  • Eugenio Suarez (+5000)
  • Mike Moustakas (+10000)
  • Nicholas Castellanos (+10000)

Each of these three players are long shots to win the NL MVP, and bettors should treat them that way. Eugenio Suarez and Mike Moustakas have the capability to each hit around 40 home runs, but won’t possess the batting average and other traditional and non-traditional statistics that MVP voters look for, and neither will Castellanos.

MLB Most Wins (Bet365)

  • Luis Castillo (+2000)
  • Sonny Gray (+4000)

The Reds may surprise this season and compete in the NL Central, but it’s likely the team will not win enough games to get either Castillo or Gray enough wins to contend for the most wins in the MLB. Pass on this one.

MLB Most Home Runs (Bet365)

  • Eugenio Suarez (+2200)

In arguably his best season in 2019, Suarez blasted 49 home runs, which was four shy of Pete Alonso’s MLB leading 53 home runs. That year Suarez had a .301 ISO, a .572 SLG, and a 46% hard contact rate. His HR/FB rate was about 10% higher than his career average, suggesting he benefited from some good fortune in terms of more fly balls turning into home runs than usual, but he has the right launch angle and hits the ball hard enough to be able to contend for the MLB lead in home runs. He also will play 81 games in Great American Ballpark, and that helps his case for winning this award. Suarez is worth a bet on the MLB home run lead.
