Player Props & Futures
National League MVP
- Bryce Harper (+1600) (Bet365)
- Aaron Nola (+1200) (Bet365)
Harper is entering his age-28 season, coming off a year where he slashed .268/.420/.542 with 13 home runs and eight stolen bases in 244 plate appearances. He posted an impressive 20.1 BB%, which was higher than his 17.6 K%, demonstrating his elite plate discipline. Harper crushed the baseball, putting up 93rd percentile exit velocity. His expected statistics were much better than his actual numbers, with a .308 xBA and .656 xSLG.
We have seen Harper’s ceiling back in 2015, when he slashed .330/.460/.649 with 42 home runs in 654 plate appearances, winning the NL MVP as a 22-year-old. The Phillies should be an improved team in 2021. If they’re able to make the playoffs, Harper will be in contention for MVP, making the +1600 odds a terrific value.
Nola was dominant in the shortened season, posting a career-high 33.2 K% and 25.3 K-BB% with 3.28 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 71.1 innings. He projects as one of the few starting pitchers who will eclipse 180 innings in 2021, as teams try to limit workloads following the shortened season. This should give him an opportunity to set himself apart from the other pitchers who have limited volume. Nola remains one of the best pitchers in the NL, so getting him at +1200 is a solid value.
