NHL Props of the Day: Best Hockey Props Today 10/14/21

Arizona Coyotes @ Columbus Blue Jackets (7:00 ET)

Jakob Chychrun: Over 0.5 Points (-130) at Caesars

Even though the Coyotes were one of the worst teams in the league last season, Jakob Chychrun still had a special year. He finished with 18 goals and 41 points in 56 games while also being on the ice for nearly 53% of the shot attempts.

Neither of these teams are expected to be good this season, but Chychrun is still going to be the one that drives offense from the back end for the Coyotes. He’s THE guy for Arizona, especially after the Oliver Ekman-Larsson trade to the Vancouver Canucks.

Chychrun has a fantastic opportunity to score at least a point on Thursday night against Columbus as the Blue Jackets are a team in transition. They traded Seth Jones and other than Zach Werenski, there’s not much there on the back end.

Chychrun had 1.9 points per 60 at even strength and with how many minutes he plays combined with how much time he spends in the offensive zone, it would be a surprise to see him off the scoresheet, making this our NHL bet of the day.

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Florida Panthers (7:00 ET)

Kris Letang: Over 0.5 Points (-150) at Caesars

Kris Letang is coming off a stellar performance against the Lightning on Tuesday night. He finished the game with 2 assists as Pittsburgh completely stifled Tampa all game long. Tampa only had 4 high-danger chances for the contest, per Natural Stat Trick.

He’ll look to continue his hot start to the season against the Panthers and with how involved he is in the Penguins offense, he should be good for at least a point. He plays the most minutes out of any of their defensemen on a nightly basis and does the most damage at even strength.

Letang finished with six goals and 23 assists at even strength last season even though his partner Brian Dumoulin missed more than a handful of games.

Letang has 25 points in 37 career games against Florida, including two points in three games in the 2019-2020 season. He’s always been great against the Panthers and that shouldn’t change in this latest matchup.

New York Islanders @ Carolina Hurricanes (7:00 ET)

Anders Lee: Over o.5 Power Play Points (+400) at Caesars

This one may come as a surprise considering the Islanders’ power play ranked in the bottom third of the league last season, but the main reason for that was due to Anders Lee being hurt.

He is the engine that makes this unit go as he’s one of the best net-front presences in the league. Whenever the puck touches his stick, it’s likely in the back of the net. Before Lee got hurt last season, he had three power-play goals, which made up a quarter of his overall goal total.

Yes, Carolina’s penalty-killing unit was very stingy last season (they ranked third overall) but that may change this season. There are two new goaltenders in town in Frederik Andersen and Antti Raanta and they’re both a step down from Alex Nedeljkovic, who was traded to Detroit.

For reference, Nedeljkovic was third overall in goals saved above expected with 2, while Raanta was at 0.4 and Andersen was at -0.6 per MoneyPuck. That’s a stark difference and with how NHL officials like to call more penalties at the start of the season, penciling Lee in for a point on the man advantage seems too easy.
